Powders for .308...

Are these powders good in the .308?

IMR4350, H4895, H335. These are the three powders I currently have and use for my rifles. I use the 4350 for my 7mm RM and was hoping it might work for the .308 with as good success as I've had in my 7mm RM.

H4895 and H335 have data from 110 gr bullets to 208 gr bullets.

4350 is a tad slow for the case, Hodgdon lists no data for it in 308 Win.

If you can find some, Varget and IMR 4064 work great for MANY folks.

I agree that IMR-4350 is a mite slow for the .308 Win. Hodgdon doesn't even list any data for that powder with that cartridge on their website. And the H-335 is a little on the fast side for the 150 gr bullets and up. But H-4895 should work fine, and if you don't like the results there are tons of other powders you can try that might give the results you seek. Basically all the medium burn rate powders starting at IMR-3031 and progressing up through Hodgdon's CFE-223 on the slow side which includes a bunch in between like IMR-4064, 8208-XBR, 4320, IMR-4895, Varget, H-380, BLC-2, Accurate 2460, Accurate 2520, Win 748, Reloder 15, and others. These days, one generally has to take what is available, but fortunately, the .308 Win is one cartridge that is covered by a wide array of potential propellants.

I only use 4350 in my .308 when I use 220gr bullets. (not a typo, I shoot 220s sometimes) It's just too dang slow of a powder for the .308.

Got 5 pounds of H322 been sitting here for years. Anybody ever mess with that?

I think H322 is one of the prime powders on the .223 loads.

335 and 4895 are both good powders for .308. Haven't used 4350, myself.

I have been using imr 4320 and it has been nothing short of great! Its not too fast, not to slow, and gives me good groups at 100yards in my ruger m77 .308 bolt action!

For my .308, H4895 is the clear winner out of the three powders you listed with bullet weights from 150 grains to 175 grains.
Only N140 shoots slightly more accurately but it is more expensive.

H4895 also shoots most accurately in my .223 bolt action for bullets heavier than 55 grains, but H335 shoots more accurately for bullets from 35 to 55 grains.

IMR 4350 is the most accurate powder for my .30-06 and .270.

Just over a week ago we developed a load using H-322 in Lapua cases and 116 grain bullets [don't remember brand] that were putting 5 shots under 1/8" @100yds.

I didn't do the shooting- an experienced benchrest shooter did. This was in a Custom Hunter rifle.
