Clay Pigeons at Dick's Sporting Goods

Hello all.

This is my first post so here goes...

The other day me and my buddy(both 16) were at Dick's Sporting Goods to get some pigeons for the weekend. Being a minor I know I am not allowed to buy ammunition. So I got my pigeons went up to the counter where I was informed that I had to be 18 to purchaser them. Luckily the guy behind me said he was with us or I would be pigeon-less. The local Wal*Mart and everywhere else I've been does not have this rule. So I wrote and E-mail to Dick's Customer Service and they said that clay pigeons are a "ammunition-type purchase." So, I ask, what do you all think? Should that be store policy or not? You can be sure I won't be going there anymore.

Thank you all,
Ben

Kinda ignorant, I agree. It's only a box of hardened clay composite.

"Reach for the sky, or I'll fill you full of clay pigeons." "I swear officer, they weren't loaded pigeons." as they were hauled off to jail for assualt with a deadly pigeon.

Not everyone your age is as smart as you, and rules tend to play to the dumbest part of a demographic. I agree that you should be allowed to buy clay pigeons. You should have gone back for some paper targets; I bet they would have sold them to you & it would have made a great argument...

They're called "Dicks" for a reason - hey, what did I do with that apostrophe?

That is ridiculous. Clay pigeons are not ammo. I know this is going to make me sound old but my mom used to call the hardware store in our town to tell the owner that I was coming to get my .22s. I would ride my bike up to the store and Mr. Pletcher would have them waiting on the counter for me. I was only 14! That was about 1970. Sure wish my kids could do that.

Dick's (The aptly named sporting goods company as one of out frequent contributors calls it) has not endeared itself to me.

I once purchased stuff in the Binghamton store and made the mistake of dallying too long in the parking lot. OK I was watching several trains go by. The called the local constabulary to chase me. A paying customer.

Now I don't understand this. It doesn't go bang. Why would they restrict them?

Next time I go in there I'll ask what the reasoning is behind the rule.
