Congratulations!

A P95 is a fine range gun.

Thinking of a second gun so soon might be pre-mature, but under $1000, I think you would be fine splurging on a Glock 17, 19, 21SF or an XDM 9, 40, 45 or possibly a Sig 1911. Although, IMHO, 40 & 45 can be pretty hard to shoot fast in the learning stages of your career.

Once things return to normal, 22 LR will be cheap and something like a Sig Trailside or Browning Buckmark target is nice to have for honing skills.

If you're looking for a competition gun, I'd also suggest considering a CZ 75 B or SP 01 in 9mm. Shoots way softer than any other handgun I've had. Single action trigger pull is great, sights are nice, and once you figure the gun out (took me about 6 hours to reliably rack the slide) everything's in a great place and easy to access even for my small hands.

Just my opinion though, since I love my CZ so much

The first gun I ever bought on my own was a P95. I still have it and still love it, 16 years later. Thousands of rounds without one malfunction. I just bought and SR9c to have a CCW 9mm, though many people I have talked to swear by the S&W Shield. If the S ever HTF, I'm carrying my P95 on my hip.
