Went to store to buy new scope for rifle. Burris had a nice one and the store offered it for $209. I looked over their demo model and pointed to them it was made in Japan and that is what I want is Japanese quality. Got home and opened the Burris box and the scope was made in the Philipenes.

God I was pissed as I told him the only reason I was buying that scope was because he said and showed me that this model was made in Japan. I live 40 miles from the store so I go back tomorrow and get my money back or a japan scope. Will let you know who, when, how and where tomorrow.

So I went back to the store after calling them and guess what, they had removed the sticker that says where the scopes are made at. So I e-mailed Burris and they said that all their scopes are of high quality just had to be made in the Philipenes to keep up with demand.

The store was doing something I call "bait and switch" they put one product out and hand you another. During my conversation with the boss he said it was my confusion and it all never happened. Of course the scope they used was missing from the display but they forgot to remove the Buris binocular display too. They had removed the made in china sticker that was on them.

Manufacturers who use stickers to say where product is made do us all a dis-service. Those stickers are removed and you have no idea where things are made or what quality was put in it.

I would hesitate, though, to equate location of a plant in today's world with quality. As more and more of the major players delve deeply into CNC machinery, and robotics, the human factor is moving further and further into the background. Most locations today are chosen for cheap labor costs, easy materials availability, and reduced enviornmental concerns. The machinery comes from someplace else, the supplies are from yet another location, the engineers are from a third area, and the local labor is trained to handle the mundane issues. Packing, packaging, raw materials inventory, and janitorial are about all that they use locals for in many cases.

At this time, I'm more interested in the latest advances in manufacturing from a plant. The less humans have to do with it, the cheaper it will be in the long run.

ya check out the scope first to see if you like it before you get too upset.... i read in a gun rag in just the last coupla mos. that there are only a very few places that make glass for optics on firearms.....

Everything is being made overseas

I got my 15 year US Govt Civil Service lapel pin... Made in China

I got some promotional stuff from the Army Recruiter for helping him out it was all made in China and had the US Army logos on it

Burris Fullfield II are junk in my opinion. So are their spotting scopes. You have to move to their Signature line to get their quality. For the same money I would buy a Busnell Elite 3200. Just my opinion and we know that opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one.

I have been selling scopes for a while now and I just noticed that on some Simmons scopes it says made in the PI and some say Japan.

I never noticed a quality difference though. Do you really think they did the bait and switch on you or could they just not have known it was made in the PI?
Either way is possible I guess.

That elite 3200 is a nice scope too BTW. I have one on my M14 and it's been doing great for about a year now.

I am sure they screwed me by showing me a Japanese scope and selling me a scope with a removable sticker with the place of manufacture being the philipenes. This shouldn't be allowed. Suppose I were to do this with other products and tell you it was made in the USA and then remove a china sticker.

I won't shop at the store again because of the confontation with the manager. I took my scope back and I proved to him that he was doing an unfair practice. He gave me my money back as there were alot of customers there during Christmas time but I have learned alot from this.

No longer can you expect honesty from manufacturerers as to even where the product is made when they just put on a sticker. Who knows where it was made when the sticker is removed. This is bad business for all of us, will they be making S&Ws in Brazil and removing the sticker or Remingtons in Albaninia next.
