feu d' joie

Fire of joy. If there was a victory, the soldiers would be ordered to load up with blanks and then be ordered to fire sequentially. The fire would start at one end of the line and progressed down to the last man.

Today is a day for feu d'joie! God Bless Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Patrick Henry and all the other patriots of 1776.

Remember, if into the air like it was done in the 18th Century, blanks only.

So I fired my beer can mortar in honor of our founding fathers and the patriots who made independence possible. Being only a one barrel affair, it wasn't much of a feu d'joie. I don't want to clean multiple black powder guns in one day either.
