Finally did it...
Well, after about 2 years of wanting one but always putting money towards other things, I finally picked up a Keltec PF9. I kind of did it on a whim, and have yet to shoot it but it was one of the first times I bought a gun and didn't think "did I really need to buy this?" I was debating between this and a LCP for a carry gun, but with the price of the LCP being $50 more, and the PF9 having the advantage of 9mm, I went with the Keltec. I'm not a huge guy, but not very small either so the size difference wasn't a big deal. The one reason I was very pleased was because of the customer service of the LGS I got it from. The guy behind the counter knowing the price difference still reccomended this to me and stated that in his opinion this was the better buy. At some places I've been too, they tell you 'how it is.' Not the case here. I walked out with the gun, a IWB holster, and a box of ammo for $350. Thats gun itself was about $40 more then say Buds, but after transfer fees and all that fun stuff it would of been close. All in all, I've got a big old smile on my face today.. I'll try to get some range time in this weekend and let ya know how it goes!
-Max.

Congratulations on your new pistol. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the PF9.

And I never heard anyone say "... it was one of the first times I bought a gun and didn't think 'did I really need to buy this'?"
But seriously, though I have no experience with PFD myself, I have a friend who positively loves his. Let us know how it shoots. I think the concept is a great one and if I could just convince myself that I really need one...

If you need any information regarding that pistol here is the best place:
http://www.thektog.org/forum/ I suggest you read about the PF9 there. Be sure to hold this gun firmly while firing or it may FTF on you. The gun is so light many people have this problem and think it's the gun but it's them not holding very tightly to the gun. This is called "limp wristing". Actually these guns can and do have significant issues and they are well known for it. A fluff and buff is a necessity for these guns due to the roughness of the machining. Even if the gun is being 100% I'd still do it. As I said above be sure to read the forum. Reliability out of the box on my gun was not 100%. I do not trust this gun 100% but do trust it enough to carry it. The cost of the gun though makes doing extra work on it worth it. The PF9 is a true bargain. I like mine for the size and weight. Being a small person a small gun is very helpful. Customer service at Keltec is outstanding so if you do have issues they will take care of it and quickly. They will even send parts without you having to send yours in. Be sure to keep the receipt. Best wishes. I hope you enjoy your gun.

Great choice of guns. I have the same pistol with a CT laser and a keltec belt clip ($18) The clip is cheaper and less bulky then a holster and works the same way.
I've had mine about 3 years and it's so confortable I carry it daily. Someday it may save my life. Warning: This is not a gun you shoot for fun like 1911 or Glock. This gun you shoot because you have to. Initially I put a couple hundred of rounds to break it in a get familiar with it and see how reliable it is. Now I only shoot it once a year (7-8 rounds) clean it and put it away. DO NOT DRY FIRE THIS PISTOL. It's in the manual.

I hate this POS. Had mine for about two years. Shot it a few times at the range before I got tired of the trigger biting my finger. A few months later, I heard about the Northwoods Aluminum trigger. I thought that could solve all my problems, so I sunk $50 into it. When it finally came, I looked at their step by step instructions for install. Fairly straight forward with the right tools (which luckily I had thanks to my 1911 tinkering). It was then that I realize just how poor the quality was. That is some very cheap plastic. Of the 4 plastic pins that hold the whole frame together, 2 broke under the pressure of my thumb! Not a mallet. Not a punch. My thumb! Had to wait for KelTec to send me some replacements (luckily they are cheap). Finally got those, and 1 of the 4 they sent me broke. Luckily with the 2 I still had and 2 of the new ones, I had a complete pistol again. Let me tell you tho, I was not in a hurry to shoot it again. Seeing the quality of the parts did not inspire much confidence that the whole thing wouldn't blow up in my face. I finally did get it back to the range. The trigger improved the comfortability greatly, but I just don't have any confidence in the quality.

Congrats on the PF9 as it's a nice little piece (I went with the P11 and it's actually my main CCW). How bout a pic of the new addition? Looking forward to your range report. -Cheers

i really like my PF9 and its perfect size for summer carry...some people that i have let try it have a problem with hitting the mag release when firing, i blame this to a loose grip as i dont have the problem... great gun IMHO Last edited by k511; September 25, 2012 at 04:09 PM. |
