What's your opinion of the Leupold VX1 scopes?
I have two recent purchases, a Sig 716 and a Springfield M1A standard, both in 308, neither of which will see much field time.
I want a 4-12 power scope for them. What about the VX1 line of Leupold scopes? SWFA seems to have a reasonable price for them. http://swfa.com/Leupold-4-12x40-VX-1...pe-P51856.aspx |

I am a Leupold fan and have 1 VX 1 scope out of the 40 + Leupold scopes I own at present. For a low end scope it is real good, but not as good as the VX 11`s and they are not as good as the VX 111`s. If you can swing it I would recomand you go with the at least the VX 11`s. They have click adjustment where the 1`s don`t and a lense coating that helps. If you can`t swing the 2`s the 1`s are good scopes.

This year's VX-1 (not last year's VX-I) is pretty much the same scope as last year's VX-II, clicks and all.

VX-II (roman numerals) were phased out several years ago in favor of the VX-2 (arabic numbers).
There have been several upgrades in recent years. The VX-1 is an improvemnent over the older VX-I. Starting in January of this year all of Leupolds lineup was upgraded. The current production VX-1's are pretty good. I have a 2012 model VX-2 that is better than a 5 year old VX-3. I'm sure the VX-3's are improved as well. |
