Trying to identify Beretta
I went to my local range and they have some new Beretta 92FS in. This one has a rail.
It surely is a Beretta 92FS and not a Taurus. Not a special model like the vertec (handle was the same). Not an M9A1 (Has 92FS stamped right on the slide). Just a regular old 9mm Beretta 92FS. I haven't heard of these ones. No matter what site I go to I can't find one. They aren't selling it at the store and they insist that it was a Beretta they got stock and no modification was done to it. Is this some kind of new model or is someone pulling my leg? |

I would guess M9A1, too. I found a photo I was able to blow up enough to get a good look at the slide. Even though it was grainy, I was pretty sure I could make out MOD. 92FS on the right side of the slide.

Here is a web site to answer your question about the Beretta 92.
http://www.beretta92.com/ This link explains the 92's birth to its current status http://beretta92.com/berettamodels.htm 2005/2007 M9A1 2005 The M9A1 is designed and delivered to the U.S. Marine Corp. for special purpose applications. Features requested by the USMC include a bottom accessory rail, enlarged magazine detach button and a more aggressively textured grip frame. This should answer your questions

Hokutoshura- The M9A1 uses the standard 92FS slide, not the GI M9 version. So the slide will say "MOD 92FS CAL 9MM PARABELLUM" on it. On the right side of the frame, it will have stamped "TYPE M9A1".

Ah... now I see. Starbuck's answer hit the nail on the head.
I forgot to mention that this one had the 92 sights on it (3 dot). So if the slide is a 92fs and the frame is an m9A1 that would explain why the sights are 3 dot and the frame is straight dust cover with rail. My only qualm now is that I want it... On second inspection (finally) nope... it's a 92. They finally got around to explaining it to me.
The new 92s have rails, straight dust covers, and 3-dot sights. It's like the m9a1 but it has 92 FS features. I believe the owner said it was either the new 92 from now on or a model called the 92-rl. Just to be sure... I put my down payment on one and when it comes in I will post up to show. |

The standard 92FS DOES NOT come with rails. The guy behind the counter does not know what Beretta gun or variation of gun he is selling you. Look at the cardboard sleeve that the Beretta box came in. It will tell you exactly what the gun is. It is probably an M9A1.

I believe the owner said it was either the new 92 from now on or a model called the 92-rl. You've been given bad info. None of that is true. As I said before, if it has a rail and a 92FS upper, it is an M9A1. |

Like I said, when I pick it up I'll get to the bottom of it. They didn't have any in stock. I'll post up some pics of the gun and box when I get them.
In any case I was looking for an M9A1 or a 92fs. So for me it's win-win. What's left is the question of exactly where the misunderstanding is. I'm kind of anxious to find out myself. Even when he checked the computer the clerk said "Yup it's a 92." That's when the owner came out to verify. It's what it says on my reserve slip... but all clues point to the m9A1. Maybe a hiccup in the system? Who knows? |

Is this the gun? It's the newer 90-Two.

Nope. That's not it.
No polymer or rail cover on the model I ordered. |

They said it might be a few weeks. they have a normal 92fs in the case and a few of those colorful military special edition M9s. But apparently a few people have been waiting on this model so they're promising soon.
Come to think of it... maybe I should just buy the one in the range case. Last edited by Hokutoshura; March 4, 2009 at 07:24 PM. Reason: Quip added... again. |

Finally, the right answer
So the pistol didn't come in yet. I'm still waiting on it because I want one anyways
But what did happen is that I returned to my store again for a weekend window shopping trip a 3rd time in a row. Finally, the guy I originally dealt with told me that he had some kind brain misfire going on but he made a big mistake on telling me what it was. I don't personally blame him as the store has been PACKED every single day since the election. He accidentally called it a 92FS the first time because that's what he was used to calling Berettas. He said it was an M9 but totally missed what variant of M9. His boss didn't help because he kept trying to feed a sale instead of trying to find the right info. So this last weekend he fessed up and said "Yeah I got it wrong. Sorry about that. It's an M9A1." So there you have it. Misunderstanding cleared. |
