Case capacity and powders
Has anybody made a listing of of the optimum case capacity range for a given powder??
In my reloading manuals they list anything from Unique thru 4320 for the .45-70 as an example. Now obviously Bullseye and Unique are better suited to smaller cases (in typical loads) and slower powders for larger cases (Reloder 25 for Weatherby). This is kinda covered in some of the books where they say "blended for medium capacity cases such as...." I know that you can use a lot of different stuff in the correct combos, but seems like there'd be an optimum range. |

There is no simple rule-of-thumb. A gent named Homer Powley developed a series of equations back in the early 1960's. Powley's equations are actually pretty good for picking the optimum powder for a specific cartridge and bullet weight. Computer programs like "Load From A Disk" essentially use the same approach. -- Kernel

The only problem with this site is the information overload that can happen.
