Stuck live round
Can anyone help me with this problem. I have a stuck round in the bullet seater die. It is in a Hornady die in the floating alignment sleeve. I have no idea how to get this thing out. I know my adjustment were correct due to this happining on the 74th round. The only thing I can think is that the neck is way to thick and used up the factory tolorances.

Take the die and chuck into a vise. Unscrew the bullet seater until it comes out of the die body. Pull the seater plug out. Now, take a hammer and a wooden dowel or some sort of flattoo to drive on the bullet with. Try tapping it out. If it won't come out, soak it down with penetrating oil or transmission fluid. Let it soak for a while and start wacking on the stuck cartridge again.
Just be darn sure that the primer end of the bullet is not resting on anything as you hit the bullet nose. Place a towel or something soft under the vise so if the cartridge flies out, itlands on something soft. A little prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I am WAY against "whacking the bullet out" this way. Several folks every year DIE by doing this in their rifles or handguns. You whack on the bullet, the bullet compresses the powder, and the powder compresses into the primer so much it sets it off.
Old wives tale? Ok, I didn't tell you to find out! Suit yourself. If you KNOW that your powder charge is FAR from compressed, then you ma be able to get away with it. Good luck. What I would do: I take it that you're using a progressive and you've ripped the case head off (partially)? Unscrew the die. screw it into a single stage or turret press, put the shellholder on the ram and the case head (what's left of it) at the same time (difficult but not impossible), making sure to line up the still usable parts of the head with the shellholder. Try to remove the case again. If all else fails, I'm sure that Hornady would send you that part.
