One powder, different weight bullets
We are working up a load for my 30-06, and also a friend's .300 Weatherby Mag. I am looking for a powder that can be used, from 150grn. up to possibly 200grn. in the -06, and from 180grn. up in the .300 Weatherby. Not necessary the same powder in both calibers, just in the ranges of bullets given, one powder for each rifle. I am working with Reloader22 for the -06 now, and with Reloader25 in the .300, but can't find any loads listed for above 180grns. Any experiences with any other powders would be appreciated. Not looking for loads, just a powder to develop a load to see what the rifles prefer.
Thanks Ken |

This is copied and pasted right from Winchester's manual that I downloaded off their site. I use 760 for all my 30-06 loads. It's consistant, and ball powder flows well out of my Dillon press.
Here's the link to the download page. http://www.winchester.com/ammunition...dersmanual.pdf 30/06 Springfield 110 grains PSP 748 52.7 3230 47,000 C.U.P. 110 grains PSP 760 59.0 3210 45,500 C.U.P. 125 grains SP 748 51.0 3060 46,000 C.U.P. 125 grains SP 760 57.8 3125 45,000 C.U.P. 150 grains SP 748 48.0 2810 46,000 C.U.P. 150 grains SP 760 54.0 2900 48,000 C.U.P. 150 grains FS 760 55.1 2810 52,100 psi 165 grains FS 760 54.6 2690 53,300 psi 168 grains HP 760 52.5 2665 47,000 C.U.P. 180 grains FMJBT 748 44.0 2530 47,000 C.U.P. 180 grains SP 748 45.0 2540 48,500 C.U.P. 180 grains FMJBT 760 52.5 2700 48,500 C.U.P. 180 grains SP 760 53.0 2725 50,000 C.U.P. 180 grains FS 760 51.4 2625 57,100 psi 190 grains HPBT 760 52.0 2605 47,500 C.U.P. 200 grains SP 760 49.0 2470 46,000 C.U.P. 200 grains SP WMR 55.7 2435 48,200 psi 220 grains SP 760 49.0 2370 48,000 C.U.P. 220 grains SP WMR 55.7 2380 51,100 psi |

Yes, I am looking for personal experiences. I have 5 different manuals, but no experience as to what works fairly universally. Lots of info on the web, but listings I have found usually don't say how accurate the powders worked with the different bullet weights, same with the manuals by the different powder makers. Thanks for your reply. I was considering something from Winchester.

Using 760 powder and standard hunting bullets, I deem 1-1/2" groups at 100 yrds as sub par with my Remington 7400 auto loader.

Don't know what your reloading references are, but it may be easier to get the reloading data from the powder manufacturers. This will show the range of loads for a specific powder. Manuals are kinda opposite in that they show a variety of powders for each bullet weight.
Perhaps your have the pamphlets from all the manufacturers, but if you don't, I'd get them. FREE and very useful. |
