Confused on AK 47 purchase - WASR 10 vs Century Arms

Wanting to buy my first AK.

Budget less than $1,000.

I came across the Century Arms (CIA I think?) RAS 47 and C39V2 rifles first and liked them from a looks standpoint (I prefer the wood furniture version as opposed to the tactical style).

But the more I read, it sounds like I should STAY AWAY from Century Arms stuff.

I saw the Romanian WASR 10's recommended alot. Atlantic Firearms was recommended too.

So I found some WASR 10's, but they are Romanian WASR 10's "by Century Arms"

I'm confused, I thought stay away from Century Arms, but the WASR 10's are recommended by them?

Thanks All.

Wasr 10’s are good rifles...
It’s the US made Century AK’s that are suspect.
The latest Gen PSA AK’s are testing out pretty good, so far.
Do a YouTube search for AK Operators Union, or AKOU. Rob Ski provides pretty much anything you might want to know about these rifles.

As amd said as long as Century is the importer & not the builder you should be good to go. Wasr is a good inexpensive AK. Might also look at the RH10 Classic that Atlantic has as well.

It doesn't have the bayo lug or cleaning rod but is made in the Cigur factory & a good buy at $639.00..

Great thanks guys.

Is CIA Century Arms?

So as long as it says WASR 10, it should be good to go? Are WASR 10's always imported from Romania or does Century also make a WASR as well as import them?

I'll check that youtube channel out too, it'll prob answer all these questions.

Thanks a bunch!

I would take a close look at the WBP Polish made AK's at Atlantic.

I'd feel a whole lot safer putting a ton of rounds down range with the WASR 10 over the Century Arms RAS or C39V2. Some say the C39V2 is made a little better being a milled receiver although I think the barrel isn't as good on the C39V2 as the RAS47. Probably a better barrel on the RAS than the WASR as a matter of fact but I wouldn't swear to it.

I have the Serbian NPAP and it's a fine rifle, very well made, great trigger. Put an Ace skeleton stock on it because Euro butstocks are long for me. I'd consider it.
Century built some AK's from Romanian WASR parts kits that were hit and miss, mainly the parts that are pressed onto the barrel weren't straight.

Yes todays WASRs are 100% GTG
Best bang for the buck current AK variant out there

Have you considered a PSAK? I don’t know AK’s but PSA has always been gtg for me.

Look for a Saiga. Russian made, and there won’t be any more.

Actually, it's CAI, Century Arms International. Or they may have done it both ways. I think my Century FAL says CIA. Maybe the spooks made them change it.

Sad state of affairs if you ask me when a new WASR 10 costs upwards of 650-750.00.

And I thought they were pricey when they were around $350.00.

I have two WASR 10 AK'S and they do a good job of putting bullets in targets. I didn't give the kind of money they are asking for in todays market. I picked up my last one in a pawn shop. Gave a low ball offer and the guy took it.

Yup, which is why after I saw that PSA improved the KS47 that I couldn't justify paying to own an AK anymore; $500 AR's are better than $700 AK's.

Much the same with the SKS and Mosin. When you could get them for $100-200, they were great, but when the prices went to $400 for the SKS, $300 for the Mosin... not anymore.

If you've got a good AK already, you're fine, but I've been saying for over a year now to stay away from the AK if you don't. It's a fad that will pass quick once you've bought one at the prices they are now.

Better quality, customer support/service, more customization, aftermarket parts, ease of use, more accurate, greater range.

A lot of that you can attribute to the designs of both platforms, but I've yet to see an AK outshoot any AR at 400 yards. I doubt the customer service with Arsenal is as good as Ruger, Savage, S&W, Del-Ton, DPMS, etc.

AR owners are very concerned about “customer service/support, customization”, none of which I’ve needed with any of the six AK’s I’ve owned over the last 24years.

Nor any of the ARs I've ever owned.

Start with a quality rifle (Colt, BCM, DD, etc. for ARs; Arsenal, Saiga, VEPR, etc. for AKs), and the chances that you'll ever need customer service are slim to none.

That said, if you shoot any rifle enough, parts wear and replacement will be needed. Even for AKs. So the "parts availability" component of customer support is always an item for consideration.

Why can't we all just join hands and sing Kumbayah?

ADClope: Excellent decision. You must have discovered both AKOU's test videos and AKfiles etc.

You might have realized that Forged receivers, bolt carriers and bolts last much longer than Cast steel.

If US-made AK clones all used Forged critical components, then the issue, especially for I.O., might only be quality control during assembly.

Inter Ordnance in Florida reportedly Shutdown their AK production for a while (still?) due to serious quality control issues, possibly concerns about liability (?).

I've been watching this thread and many others and been considering buying an AK47 for several months. I've looked at pretty much everything out there and it can get very confusing at best in the current AK market. I too purchased a WASR 10 from Atlantic and hopefully when it arrives everything will be in good working order. I've watched several videos on the newer WASR rifle quality being assembled now, and I like what I see. I had to draw the line somewhere on price and quality and AK prices have really jumped in the last few years. Hopefully this WASR 10 will be a keeper and long outlast me.

I've run my PSAK pretty hard on occasion (which I mean +p) ammo, faster than even the warmest combloc stuff and had no issues with it other than brass is pretty much useless after one firing. Occasionally I've gotten very close to MOA at 100 yds with it.
