New to Reloading

I want to start reloading. I have a budget of around $500. I want to reload for a 270wsm, 300wsm, 308win, and a 338 lapua mag. I know the 338 lapua might be hard to find products for but I shoot all the time at long ranges and want as much accuracy as I can. Any thing will help.

WELCOME TO TFL!!!

For starters, read at the top of the reloading page:
Sticky: For the New Reloader: Equipment Basics -- READ THIS FIRST
Then come back with more questions.

G'day and welcome. If your $500 includes your consumables it will limit your choices.
May I suggest starting with one cartridge until you have developed it before adding the next cartridge. I would pick the smallest powder burner for the learning carve.

Welcome from another newbie. One thing I found helpful was going to youtube and watching some videos of various loaders in action. I was at first thinking of a single stage like the Lee Breech lock or Hornady single stage because with both you get a bushing that you screw your dies into then just take out the bushing, die and all and replace with the next die that's already in its own bushing. Then, I watched a couple of videos on the Lee Classic Turret and saw something I think is much better than single stage, but not as complicated as a fully progressive press. With the Lee you can buy extra turrets for about $10 and have a turret set up for each caliber you want to reload so all you have to do is change the turret and adjust the powder charge and make sure you have the right primer hooked up and your good to go -- I think. You can also take out the auto index bar and use the Lee Classic Turret as a single stage press as well. Kempf's has a pretty good deal on the LCT Kempf's kit for about $177, $200 if you upgrade to pro auto disk and both large and small primeing systems. My $.02. YMMV.

I'll second what my Australian friend said about consumables. I priced the brass for your 338 Lapua mag, and that's one expensive pet you got there The 308 is the most economical to load for (of the ones you listed). The WSMs won't be too expensive. Certainly no worse than any other magnums. If I was just learning to reload, I'd start with the 308. It's a very fun cartridge to load. Very forgiving. Pretty much likes any medium burning powder you feed it (i.e. varget. IMR 4064, W-748). I never had very good luck with the Hornady Spire points. Speer and Sierra 150 gr spitzers always grouped at about 1-1 1/4".

I'm building a website to help both newbs and more experienced reloaders out, it might be worth a look.

http://www.rifles-shooting-reloading.com

Hope it helps.

Which post?

Read the post just above yours
Geaux,

I assume, since yours is post #2, that you mean the "thread just above yours", since there is no post just above the original post. But that brings up another problem. The thread just above this one will change everytime someone puts a new post in it. I am sure you know this, but new members may not pick up on that right away and be misled or confused.

Were you talking about thread 395349?
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=395349
or, if the link does not work, paste this into your browser
thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=395349

added by edit:
(that was just above this one when I signed on, but now that I have posted, this thread has been bumped up to right below the sticky thread, #230171
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=230171
or, if the link does not work, paste this into your browser

395349 is an excellent read, by the way.

Just trying to reduce confusion one post at a time.

I have a Lyman Turret press that i use for pistol and rifle and it works great,i like it cause you can have multiple dies set and just turn the turret for the next step. I got mine in a complete kit for around $300 from Basspro
