Tavor Sar Worth It?
I have a Daniel Defense AR that I'm very fond of. I have someone I know who has offered to trade me that for a Tavor Sar in 5.56.
I'm actually considering the trade only because I've never had one. Would you say it's worth the trade? TIA |

You won’t get the same accuracy you may be accustomed to with your DD. They are reliable and compact.

Ask if you can shoot it first, and see if its something that interest you, otherwise I'd hesitate to trade a rifle you know you like for a bullpup if you've never shot one before.

Does the Tavor have all the right upgrades like a Geissele trigger, etc? If not, I'd say no.
I have a bullpup (FS2000, not the Tavor) and I like it a lot. But I wouldn't trade a DD for one. I'd just get one if you can afford it or sell/trade gun(s) you're not tied to. |

Like most imports, they are way overpriced.
If it comes into the country from Germany, Austria, Israel, or Switzerland it is pitched to the buyers market as "worth more" but that is not always the case. It's usually the market understanding the "Emperors new Cloths" and knowing that many people think having something that is not "common" makes them more sophisticated. They are at "an upper level" and see things you, the commoner, just can't see. Mostly it's them fooling themselves. That is why many foolishly buy such things and hold onto the idea for years that they have something that is worth more....but in the end, they seem to always try to sell them or trade them for something that is better for the purposes of shooting. In most cases they find their multi-thousand dollar guns do not impress the public enough to bail them out of their bad investment for the dollar amount they were hoping to gain. Price and value are NOT the same. If it's worth it to YOU --- then make a trade. But ask if you want one because it is something you want to collect and own with no intention of selling it and making money, or if you want to have a gun to shoot a lot and use. If you are valuing the rifles for what they are able to do in terms of accuracy and reliability, I think I'd stick with the AR you have. |

I've had both & still have the DD. I believe you would be happier in the long run to keep what you have.

Well since IWI "killed off" their X39 plans for the Tavor i said "the heck with them", although the AR is saturated ATM i would almost say trade if someone was offering a Keltec RMR or one of the other US made modular bullpups for the DD AR.

I usually have to double up on ear protection, while sitting next to an active Tavor on the range.

I find that quite surprising, but I haven't shot next to many either, so I wouldn't know.
