Remington 512 stubborn problem

Still have my first gun. 512 Remington .22
Even has the hang tag.

It developed a feeding problem a LONG time ago.
3 gunsmiths ...tried...(maybe) to fix but no go.

Last one got it ...almost...right.

Now it will feed all but the last round which jams up pointed down and TIGHT!

The other day I got to wondering if it just needs a mag tube spring. Since the preceding rounds feed, maybe it needs more oomph to get the last one into that mickey mouse carrier stuff.

Your 512 was probably manufactured in the 1940's, unassemble the magazine tube and give it a good cleaning...think gunned up with super duper yuk.

Have the same gun. Developed the exact same issue. Smoke is (at least in my case) 100% correct. Was enough crud in there that reliable feeding was an issue and caused all sorts of feeding issues. Pulled it apart, cleaned it in detail. Functions pretty well today. Its an old gun firing a notoriously finnicky round. probably 95% reliable now.

By "magazine tube" do you mean the brass inner one where the rounds are?
Or, the outside part that is visible from just looking at the gun?
I would think only that part with the spring inside would be the culprit as the rounds don't touch the outer tube.
