Slightly Off Topic, Sorry

Quote:
what do you think is the most versatile cartridge?

not for shooting, but for loading.
How about the 12 gauge shotshell? Yes, I know that technically it is not a cartridge, but it can reloaded all the same.

another vote for the 30-06

Back when I only had one rifle and I was wanting to shoot everthing, it was a 1903-A3 Rem 30-06. I still have one today and still shoot it @ 600 yards with 180's at 2600fps, and Coyotes with 147's at 3,000fps+. The 30-06 is the best selling reloading die year after year.

Now a days most calbers/cartridges have multiple loadings that take you anywhere from pip squeak to blow your hand off.

We load a lot of various calibers at our place and been doing so since the 1960's give or take a month or two. The most versatile rifle caliber would have to be the 30-06, though I certainly would say the .300 Winchester magnum was right on it's heels.

The most verstatile pistol caliber would have to be the .44 magnum in my eyes simply put. You can load it down almost to .38spl horsepower and can load it hot as well. This calbier can cover a spectrum of tasks and handle many big game animals in the field too.

7mm or 30 cal.

Go to any bullet supply website and count how many bullets are available for 30 caliber and 7mm cartridges. No other caliber comes close.
