Why are you surprised about Taurus? They are regarded by most people as very cheap firearms with terrible customer service.

I dunno. Yesterday while I was shooting on the pistol range, a very frail looking older man (I'm 81 - so you know he was old - 92) came up walking with his cane and holding his target and range case in the other hand. I stapled up his target and he sat down to shoot so he could use his cane hand to shoot two handed.

I expected him to be shooting a .22 or some "low recoil" gun - HE WAS SHOOTING A TAURUS 1911 45 ACP! - and shooting it well. He did concede he taped the grip safety because his hands were so skinny and didn't disable the grip safety any more but - he shot very well.

Gives me hope 1 might last a few more years.

Colt Gunsite CCO. Has a decent sight radius for 25 yard work, compact for carry, lightweight for carry, no Series 80 firing pin safety so no extra parts to break, and chambered for .45ACP, which would get my vote for the best pistol caliber in my opinion poll.

I am glad that Glock won this Best Pistol poll. It reflects my personal preference for some reason since I like Glock SIG and HK and by chance they are the top dogs here

I agree. I also feel that Glock is the best pistol on the market for it's intended purpose.

While Glock currently has the highest single slice of the pie at 23.25%, it is important, I think, to note that 76.75% of voters in this poll do not think it is the best pistol. Not quite perfection. However, this mathematical reality check will not prevent me from uncompromisingly accepting the bronze medal on behalf of my HK (currently #3 at 8.88%).

There is no "best". ESPECIALLY with no regard for its intended purpose. To believe so is to show a significant lack of knowledge and/or experience. What is best for one person for one particular use is completely useless to another. This poll is meaningless and so far has served only to boost the OP's ego.

Why should someone who prefer's a 1911 platform need a "Reality Check" as you put it? You split up 1911 manufacturers but only have one manufacturer of a Glock in the poll. How is that any kind of reality check. Heck, you didn't even have my favorite manufacturer of 1911s in the poll so I went with my favorite plastic gun manufacture.

Sorry, this poll is too general. Then the OP says 'the one you carry all the time'. This poll is an absolute waste of time, and I'm not even going to vote.

Different guns/manufacturers are better for different purposes. It's just too general and ambiguous a poll to be of any value.

And it does not specify to compare specific models. What a waste.

My definition of BEST is the one you always come back to, or the one you sold, and felt like you were missing something until you got another.

I have got to jump in here and add this:

Are we voting for the best gun that we own, or are we voting for the best gun IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT?????

There is a difference. Glocks are winning the vote, and they are excellent guns for there price tag. But are we supposed to believe that everyone who voted for the #1 spot on this poll has had access to each of the other brands listed??? AND has had viable real world experience with each??

Now one person may jump in here and say YES! But the majority will not follow suite. (not to mention I would have to be forced to question that persons sincerity lest he provided an good explanation of why.)

My vote went to the HK . . . primarily because on top of all of its attributes COMMONLY SHARED WITH ITS "COMPETITION" on the poll above. (such as firing after being dipped in a puddle ex.) I have seen an HK eat up cheap ammo (I mean absolute crap ammo that I would never feed into my gun) that its Glock counter part choked on. The HK feeded it like nothing, and the Glock could barely get through 3 rounds at a time. THAT event has left an impression on me.

But . . . the HK is pricey and the Grip of the USP, USP Tactical and the Mark 23 are not the "best" in the world for ALL hand types! Which might keep it from "winning" the title. So what is the "BEST"

The Glock shares many qualities with its competition. It may be price affordable but it is by no means "light years" beyond the competition.

BUT there is ONE THING that a Glock does have, HANDS DOWN, that most of its competition does not . . .

IT IS . . . DRUM ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND IT MADE #1 . . . IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE A COINCIDENCE ????

Just my ".50 Cents" worth . . .

I have owned or shot most makes on the poll and I voted for Glock. Although I prefer the feel of an HK or the trigger on a Sig or 1911, I've slowly come around to the Glocks.

They are cheap, accurate, reliable, light, thin and have great mag capacity. For an all-around, every-use gun, you just can't beat them.

I think the key to this type of post is the word YOU. What is best to YOU.

I've used a few of these, and here are my thoughts.

Glock 120 23.30% I always come back to my Glocks. Never had a hiccup.
Sig 76 14.76% Nice, but they feel top heavy to me, and they flip too much.
HK 46 8.93% Nice, but overpriced, and they didn't GRAB me
CZ 44 8.54% Ergonomically perfect, IMHO, but I couldn't hit with it. Bad trigger.
Springfield 40 7.77% Glock imitators that were decent. 1911's so-so.
Smith & Wesson Love 3913, 1006 and 45 versions. #2 after Glocks for me.
Colt 35 6.80% 1911's, many of them. Great pistols, but reliability a factor.
Beretta 24 4.66% My 92's seem overly large, but nice
Kimber 20 3.88% Not as good as my Colts
Ruger 17 3.30% Bulky and utilitarian. Nothing really wrong with them
Walther 14 2.72% P-38 was too finicky.
Browning (FN) 14 2.72% I love hiPowers, but some were finicky
Taurus 7 1.36% Decent pistols, but one was a lemon
Khar 6 1.17% Nice, but over priced
Makarov 5 0.97% Excellent, but not enough caliber for me
Para Ord. 3 0.58% Never owned one
Desert Eagle 2 0.39% Never owned one
Star 1 0.19% Firestar was a decent pistol.
Mauser (Luger) 1 0.19% Never owned one
Korth 1 0.19% Never owned one
