Scope for 10/22

Recently purchased a Ruger 10/22 and am looking for a suitable scope for it. I initially put a TruGo 3-9x40 on it I had just lying around the house. I haven't tried actually shooting with it yet, but it's a bit big for this rifle, I think. The objective end is touching the rear iron sight, which isn't sitting well with me, and the eye relief isn't the greatest because of how long the scope is.

I don't really want one of the cheap-@$$ scopes that are 'made' for .22's; the Barskas, Simmons, etc. I'd like to purpose a decent rifle scope for it.

I understand it's made for ARs really, but I've seen a couple folks mention purposing it for an M1A, Mini-14, etc. It's a nice, compact scope with more than enough magnification for just range use; I've never really been off a 3x power ever, I think. My primary concern is the eye relief, since I'm not going to have a whole lot of play once the rings are on with how short the tube is.

Or if anyone has other suggestions. My ceiling is ideally ~$200. Nikons are preferable; I also like Bushnell. I don't want to go too overboard on a .22.

I just ordered the Vortex Crossfire 3-9x40 with the V-Plex Reticle for my 8mm Mauser. The Ruger 10/22 is a very fun gun to shoot at distances, therefore you are going to want more than 3x zoom. This scope is excellent from the reviews I have seen and only goes for $140 if you get the 3-9x40 with the standard V-Plex reticle. It is only 12 inches long and won't look to bulky on your Ruger. Also check out the Bushnell XLT Bone Collector Series. Let me know what you decided on and post some pictures of your 10/22 once you get a scope on it.

P.S- The Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 is nice, and is smaller, if that's what you are looking for.

The Crossfire II looks like a good way to start leaning. I've had great luck with Vortex in the past; love the Strikefire red dot I have from them. And yeah, I'm looking for something shorter and with a slightly smaller objective; so the 11" overall length is also rather appealing. Thanks for the suggestion.

Nikon is good, and the Prostaff is no exception. Also go on Optics Planet and put your price range $100-$200 and look around at the best reviewed scopes. That will narrow you down enough to find what your looking for. Hope I helped!

Definitely did, thanks. Better options, I think, than the P-223. I just wanted a little smaller than the scope I have at my disposal now; it's just too much for the 10/22. I used to have it on my .30-06 before getting rid of it (tired of paying so much for the ammo), and on there it was fine; but now it's almost the size of the gun

Not to mention TruGlo is so-so quality-wise; I've always loved Nikon and their products.

Nikon P-22 2-7x32, almost the same as the scope you were looking at but with more zoom, and it is built for the .22. Costs a bit more but it has nothing but positive reviews.

The Nikon Prostaff rimfire is a decent scope and so is a Weaver RV7 2.5-7x28. A step up is a Weaver RV9 3-9x32 rimfire with AO.

Custom 10/22 with a Weaver RV9 3-9x32.

The Nikon Prostaff Rimfire scopes are excellent, either the 4x32 or 3-9x40, depending on use. Also, I stay away from opticsplanet, too many bad experiences, and you can find better prices elsewhere.

I have a Nikon 4X32 on my plane jane 10/22 carbine and it has been excellent for my boys (and me).

I have BSAsweet 22. Great scope for the money but definitely not a nikon.

I have a Remington 541-s and after a few cheap 4x no name scopes, I installed a weaver V16 and its very nice. They make a nice mid quality scope.
