Air Gun Drills
I'm turning 18 tomorrow and I shall be lawfully getting my first gun. I've determined that I am getting an airsoft M1911a1 and I plan on getting a functional M1911 type pistol when I come of age, means, and circumstance. Are there any sort of training drills I could run with the thing for situations such home defense, vehicle defense, robbery resistance, and gang attackers scenarios? Thank you.
EDIT: Also, I shoot pistol either lefty single hand or right dominant with two hands. I plan on actually getting a functional firearm once I have my own life sorted out properly. Last edited by Mutatio Nomenis; March 30, 2011 at 02:59 PM. |

Your choice of starting out with an airsoft is a good one.
It's best to make the mistakes with something less than lethal. And you can use it at home. As for what to practice, you might start with buying few dvds from the training schools, like Thunder Ranch, Gunsite, and others of this quality. To begin with, though, do a web search for the qualifiers for the US Marshals, FBI and other law enforcement branches. Those are quite good drills to practice.

According to Federal Law, I have to be 21 to get a handgun from a licensed dealer. Same applies to things that mandate an FFL, though I can get a 20" shotgun for self defense.

That's why I specified "private sale".
It's absolutely legal for me to sell the 18-year-old next door a handgun. |

^ But it's not legal for me to have it, or good for me not getting kicked out of the house.

You need to be 21 to buy a handgun from a dealer. A private sale is fine on both ends, even if you are only 18. But anyways, an airsoft gun can be a great training tool. I own a gas blowback airsoft 1911, and it certainly helps me improve my marksmanship with my real pistols. Being able to train indoors in my own house and not having to drive to the range, and the extremely low cost per shot, are great incentives to practice as often as possible. I can just set up a few cans and have at it. I can also set up paper bullseye targets for more serious training.
