Setting up a competition Glock 22 gen 4, anything I should do or not do?

So I am 'building' a competition Glock 22 gen 4 so far I'm planning on purchasing a competition magwell and have already purchased a compensator. Any future purchases I should make?

9x19mm barrel, extractor, and magazines?

I'm sort of kidding, but what type of competition is this? I do understand the desire for bigger holes in the paper for some competition styles.

What kind of competition?
If you are putting a compensator on it, that enters you in USPSA and SCSA Open and GSSF Unlimited, so you should install an optical sight to be competitive in those Divisions.
(The compensator completely bars it from IDPA.)

I don't know about other forms of competition, and there are strictly local rules events that can account for about any configuration.

But what type of competition do you plan to participate in? That will dictate what upgrades (if any) are recommended or allowed.

My recommendation would be to research the rules of the respective competition before buying any more parts.

If you are just looking to tinker around and buy parts just to make the pistol look "cool," that is a different story altogether.

Visit matches in your area, talk to shooters, read the rules.

I think I would take your stock Glock 22 to some matches, spend the money on holsters and ammo and match fees for a little bit, and see what areas you think could be improved. Also see what types of competitions you want to specialize in and what equipment is allowed and go from there.

How about a new connector for the trigger. They are simple to change out and improve the trigger pull.

I've seen more malfunctions from modified Glocks than most pistols. Leave it alone for now.

Once your pistol is limiting you in competition, start working on modifications. Most new competitors can't take full advantage of their gun, so mods are often an attempt to make up for inexperience or lack of training. A good shooter with an ok gun beats an average shooter with a nice gun.

While I don't participate in handgun, I do compete in High Power rifle matches. My competition AR-15 is pretty much meat-n-potatoes. A match WOA barrel, a CMP legal Guesselle trigger, and some lead in the buttstock. Nothing fancy, just a great and RELIABLY FUNCTIONING shooter.
