Fair Price?

Stag Arms 11.5 inch barrel 1200 dollars ... nothing else special. Dont want to feel I am being taken because all the hooplah. Also when I called the store to ask why the price seemed to be so high... I got fees for the NFA transfer is part of the cost. Is that a right statement as well or seem fair?

So the $200 tax stamp and any FFL fees are included in the cost?
If so, then it makes the gun $900-1000, which is about what ARs are going for right now.
Not a steal, but not a rip off either.

So you're talking 1200 for the rifle (still have to add tax) and then the 200 dollar tax.

Not a good price. I paid less than that for my Sabre Defence SBR, which is a much better rifle than a Stag.

Not a good buy. Sounds like they're trying to charge extra for "Making" the SBR. Big deal.

You can just buy an AR and SBR it yourself for the same $200 Tax Stamp. It's not like a putting a short upper on an AR is difficult.

Plus cost of engraving the lower, and buying the SBR upper.

Well here is the thing... a lot of places in Massachusetts dont want to get involved with SBR's went to 2 other dealers and they said they dont do it... so thats why its a premium.... and they know it

Well, let's see:
Complete lower (assuming you can find one now) ~$350
Engraving ~$40
11.5" upper ~$450
Shipping for all ~$100

Total, about $940
Add the $200 Tax and you have $1140. Still less than what they are asking.

You Don't Need an NFA dealer if you make it yourself. Buy the lower at Four Seasons, Zero Hour, or wherever. When you buy it, it's just a regular Title I lower. Then you fill out a Form 1 to make it an NFA weapon. No dealer involved. The hardest part is getting your CLEO signoff, but you'd have to get that to buy the complete SBR anyway. Getting the upper shipped directly to you is fine, since it's not a firearm by itself (obviously wait until the Form 1 is done).

OK I am dealing with Zero Hour. I called them up and they gave me the run around about Fees and it could cost 70 to 200 dollars for a NFA item.

Define "Fees". Is that what they charge to do an NFA transfer? The dealer I used charged $100 for an NFA transfer. Charging $200 is robbery unless they are actually doing all of the work-- filling out the Form 4, taking photos, getting your Prints done, etc.

edit: My dealer also had to do a Form 3 to get the item into MA. Presumably Zero Hour already has the gun here in MA, so no other Form is needed. They have basically no work to do for your transfer.

Well no they have to get the gun from Stag. I am working on something so we will see.
