Mossberg 590

How much would you all pay for a 590 right now. The one I'm looking at is the base model with the ghost ring sights and bayo lug 9 shot. Local store has them in stock for 490. I'm thinking that is kind of high, but haven't found any cheaper. I payed 405 for my other 3 before the O factor, but is this price about the norm now for them?

Yeah, seems a little high. Guess it just depends on how bad I would want it.

Big 5 has them for for about $369.99 i think. im not sure, but i know its less than $400

It is high, especially when you're paying to handicap yourself with slow sights.

That's the thing, in a seller's market they can probably find people willing to pay for it. The question is are you willing to pay for it or wait a while and look for a better deal.

P.S. If you do decide that you really want it, don't feel too bad, I paid too much for my shotguns also.

If it's a 590A1, it's a decent price. HOWEVER- if it's just a typical 590 (590A1's say "590A1" right smack on the side of the receiver) then don't get it! I picked mine up for 349.99 from Big 5.

That'd be my first question: do those sights make sense for the application? You're probably looking at paying a slight premium for them, so make sure it's actually something that improves the value, to you.

You could get them with the marine finish for that at Dick's sporting goods a few weeks back.

I think I paid about $440 for my 590 from budsgunshop.com, 9 round, heat shield, bead front sight.

I would expect to pay a little more for the model with the ghost ring sights, if that's what you want get it. If not shop around the 'net a little, you can get a basic one cheaper than that.

Although this isn't a bead vs. ghost ring sight thread, I'm all for ghost ring sights for my needs, which isn't shooting fowl, clay, skeet, or trap. For a close target, quick sight picture, one can always look over the front post, not using the ghost ring, and keep an eye on the threat (before pulling the trigger).

Ghost ring sights is what's happening nowadays and they work when practiced or trained.

The only current trend I'm seeing in the combat/tactical market are people trying out red dot type optics on Picatinny railed receivers, although I've seen no wide-spread or police department-wide usage of such.

Beads are fine, but I'd rather have a ghost ring sight setup when going to slugs (25-200 yards).

sorry. didnt mean to make it a ghost ring bashing thread. they definitely are deadly ranged with slugs. i know you can basically use the blade as a bead, but it always felt unntaural to me. so much so i parted with my 590 that had them in favor of one that didnt.

There are plenty of 590's backordered up here in Ontario right now. Mine is one of them.
