H & R Model 632

Have H&R Model 632, nice little gun, In good shape, no cylinder play, etc. Am
curious as to the proper way to load/reload. Hammer does not have mid-cock
position, freeing cylinder to turn. Cylinder is restrained in hammer down/
hammer full cock positions. Can remove cylinder in hammer down position.
Revolver has opening in recoil plate for loading, but no loading gate. Only
way to use reloading opening is to hold hammer slightly back while inserting/
removing ammo. Anyone have any experience/suggestions?

You push the little button in front of the revolver, pull the cylinder pin and remove the cylinder for loading and unloading. The gate is for dropping the empty cases out, if you choose to do so. The fact that your revover has no safety notch is dangerous. I suggest a gunssmith.

Understand your answer. Does the H&R 632 suppose to have safety notch.
Value of 632 done not warrant much expenditure to have notch tooled in
by gunsmith. Moreover, is that an option?

Basically, a H&R has a hammer with a safety notch first, this keeps the hammer OFF and OUT of CONTACT with the cylinder chambers/primers. They can break off but, I suspect the mainspring is weak. A gunsmith can check and see if a new hammer or a used one or a spring is the fault. I have had a 632 with the same problem. A prior owner had ground off some of the spring to lighten the trigger pull. I installed a used spring and all has been well for 6 years.

If your thinking of the hole on the right side its not for reloading, the only way to reload it is by pulling the pin and dropping out the drum and reloading it.
