Floppy belt syndrome
One time I accidentally dropped a leather glove in a pond, and when it dried out it was stiff as a board.
Rather than buying a new gunbelt every few months, is there some way to re-stiffen the leather? |

Good question.
I must say that I have a Milt Sparks that is 8 years old and is still stiff. I have not had such good luck with other brands.

I am surprised that a real gunbelt is deteriorating so quickly. Who's the maker that I should avoid?

Ok, I had that one coming to me.
Maybe I'll try the water thing just for S&G. |

I agree with Don. Whose product is giving you a problem?

To the original question........
I too would like to know which gun belt is giving you problems. I used regular belts for years and had to replace them every few months until I got smart and bought an actual "gun belt". Try www.thebeltman.net You will not be disappointed. |

Just sounds like your belt is wore out and it needs to be replaced.
I had a Ross Leather Gun Belt that developed a several case of the floppy after two years. I just replaced it with a new Beltman horse hide. Awesome belt. I suspect I'll get a much longer life out of it than I did my Ross belt. www.thebeltman.net

yes, I have found that some who make belts with more soft leathers or other exotic skins don't hold up too long.
I normally carry OWB with a 92FS or 1911 commander and always have a double mag pouch and possibly a multi tool pouch on my belt. This really pulls on the belts and most belts have not stood up to the test. Unfortunately I have ended up going with really rough looking local (I live ten miles from the border so local is still in mexico) made belts that seem to hold up to the added weight. Thanks for the link to the beltman. I am gonna give his belts a try since I mostly wear suits and need a good looking belt to go with the suit. JOE

I have a problem though. Most leather holsters I've run across just have a simple loop. If the belt is stiff, that loop digs into my side like crazy. But if the belt is flexible it makes the holster flop around. Lately I've been carrying my Don Hume OWB that has a separate belt loop from the holster. Works fairly well, not that retentive though. |

spend more once
Most highly recommend a discussion with any premier custom holster maker..
Get a belt and holster from the same maker (but ONLY after a thorough discussion of your personal specific needs). I have yet to 'floppy-ize' any of my belts: Bianchi, Ernie Hill, Hume, Hellweg. Hey, I gotta get some different alphabet stuff.....

Tegemu, there are Words of Power that summon creatures more foul than you can guess.
We call these creatures "spammers." Do not summon them.

Comp-Tac's kydex reinforced belt is tops in my book. Doesn't sag, doesn't twist with a really high-ride OWB and my 5" steel 1911 in it.
