Anybody Ever Have a Gun That Just Grew on Them?

I have completely flip flopped on the Browning Hi-Power. I used to think it was the ugliest pistol made...Then I saw a stainless one on The Walking Dead and thought to myself it wasn't half bad. Low and behold I got my hands on one in a trade a few months later. I traded for it with the intention of selling it for profit. Never even looked at it very close. Well the damned thing has grown on me. My initial plan was to sell the hi power and keep the glock 36, but then I held them up next to each other and realized how much the glock feels like a big square brick. And it's a compact model. The Browning seemed so much LESS massive. The thinness really sets it off. Add to that all the history I didn't know, and I have become rather impressed with this pistol. It's just kinda surreal. A complete 180.

Yep, and recently, too...

Colt revolvers.

I've always been an S&W fan. Had a Detective Special, but couldn't get used to the cylinder release after years of shooting S&Ws, so I traded it on an S&W.

Recently, though, I got the jones for a Colt revolver, and this year have picked up two -- a circa 1969 Official Police .38, and a 1930s to 1940s Police Positive Special in .30-20 WCF.

Never thought I would own Colt revolvers again.

The 1911.

I hated them when I was a kid. I did not like the looks at all. Had a Gold Cup years ago that really changed my outlook.

The hi-cap .45 and 9mm guns came along and the need for a 1911 faded into the background.

Then. . .came the Sig 1911, then the Smith and Wesson 1911E, then the Ruger SR1911, then the Dan Wesson PM9, then the Dan Wesson Valor.

This last week, I shot a Springfield 1911-A1 in 9mm. It was a Trophy Match gun and it will give the Dan Wessons a run for the money.

I am going to the LGS today to place an order. Probably get one in 9mm and .45. . .

Being retired has drawbacks. . .too much time on your hands gets you in trouble.

When I see the posts of some 1911 collections, I understand the need for 60 1911 guns. . .I really do. . .

They grow on you.

Anybody Ever Have a Gun That Just Grew on Them?

A Ruger .22/45.

I'd had a previous unpleasant experience with a Ruger Standard I'd bought in 1975 or 6.
Thing was a pain to take down and put back together, jammed with hollow points,,,,,sometimes jammed with solids too,,,,shot so far off POA it was rediculous.
Replaced the Ruger w/a High Standard and never looked back for the next 20 plus years.

The "tupperware" craze finally convinced me I should at least consider trying a "plastic" pistol.
I didn't want to sink a lot of money into something I was dead set against at the time, so the "plastic" Ruger @ under $200 looked like it would be a decent one to try.

Sooooooo - I bought a gun made by the same company as the one that made the bad one I'd gotten rid of & it was "plastic" too boot.
Strike one and strike two.

Once I took it out and started to shoot it, it grew on me more and more.
That .22/45 has probably twice as many rounds gone through it as all my other guns combined.

Yeah, I'd say its my Mode 64 Smith.

I've been on the look out for a Model 10 4" and couldn't find one in this area.

On an impulse I found the Model 64, wanted blue but figured stainless will tied me over until I found a Model 10.

I've been shooting my old service revolver, a Model 28, but wanted something lighter for shooting 38.

Got to shooting my Model 64 in most of my competition shooting..........its got to be my go to non- CC gun.

I've got to where I can shoot it better then any of my pistols or revolvers.

Still looking (always) for a good Model 10, but I don't think it will replace my Model 64.

Glock's

Having to carry one that was issued, I have grown to like them. I now own two of my own. G19 & 36.

Beretta M9/92FS. Hated it (and the 9mm for that matter) when it was first issued to my unit. Fast forward 20+ years later, I've come accept that it's one of the best handguns I've ever used. I have one today and it sits proudly next to my small collection of 1911s.

Ever Have a Gun That Froze Your Carry Rotation?

My J-frame, a S&W 638 Airweight with 1 7/8" barrel. It is customized to suit me: Gloss Black Duracoat, ported, back of frame lowered a bit to provide better access to the hammer, trigger job that reduced the DA pull to 4.25 lb with real strong hammer strikes, and a Hogue Bantam one piece rubber grip that provides very sure handling and does not interfere with speed loaders like the original Uncle Mike's boot grip did (why in all these years haven't S&W and Uncle Mike's solved this problem?). The gun rides in my front pocket comfortably and draws easier from there than about any other gun. But I usually carry it AIWB in a Stays-Put Ultra pocket holster that stays put there all day long and so comfortably that I forget it is there. And I can draw the gun just as well seated or standing.

Suggested title: "Anybody Ever Have a Gun That Grew on You So Much It Froze Your Carry Rotation?" LOL!

My dad bought me a 6" Python in 1979 as a matriculation present for graduating from college. I killed a nice mule deer with that same year.

My son shot it for the first time the other day and marveled at its incredible accuracy. We were shooting pumpkins and the small tight group was evident.
It's good to know that it will go to someone who appreciates it for what it is someday when I'm gone. But I can't give it to him until then because it reminds me of my dad who we lost in 2005.

P229. The 40, once you get used to the recoil, is very accurate.

I'm not quite there yet, but Glocks are still growing on me. Since the first time I shot one in the early 90's I just didn't like them much. No I was never a hater or anything they just didn't feel right for me. Over the years it seems that every other person I go shooting with puts one in my hand. They just don't quite "do it" for me...yet. I sure can't ignore the reliability, utility and availability of parts. I'm fairly certain one will eventually sneak into my collection at some point. I'll likely make a good happy home for it too.

Taurus 22-PLY,,,

I only purchased this gun because it was cheap,,,
I wanted a very small gun to hide away.

It turned out that the little beast is very reliable,,,
And despite it's small size it shoots well.

It is essentially the old Taurus PT-22,,,
But with a new ergonomic polymer frame,,,
It fits my hand very nicely and is a natural pointer.

In fact, even though it is designated the 22-PLY,,,
The upper still has the PT-22 nomenclature on the slide

I really thought this was just going to be a stash/hideaway gun,,,
But it's so much fun to shoot that I've gained some proficiency with it.

It goes to the range with me every trip,,,
I'll always put about 50 Mini Mags downrange,,,
So far the gun has had no malfunctions of any kind.

I do clean and lube it after every session,,,
That task takes all of five minutes,,,
It's very easy to breakdown.

So yeah, this gun grew on me,,,
It surpassed all expectations.

Aarond

Not handguns, but .......

...... from all the pics of the Rooney Guns out there that started out as simple AR/SKS/Ak carbines and were then infested with several pounds of BPOS..... I'd say that many people have had guns grow on them.

Walther PPS 9mm. Could have kicked myself after I bought it but the more I shot it the more it grew on me. Very accurate pistol for its size.
