Holster Rail
My buddy recently bought a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 pistol. Among the accessories is a belt holster. There's a short Picatinny-style rail on the front of the holster. What did the Springfield folks have in mind -- what does one mount on a holster's rail?

It's a place to mount a light/laser to carry while your pistol is holstered. When you need it, you take it off the holster rail and mount it to your pistol. I have one on my XDc holster, too.
I think it's kinda useless to keep the light/laser mounted on a holster. How are you going to get at it while you have your pistol in hand? Cross-draw, maybe? Better to have the light/laser in a pouch on your weak-hand side....

Seeker two, that makes sense for an XD, but my buddy's 1911-A1 doesn't have an accessory rail. At first glance, I thought the holster was some sort of rail adapter.

Probably adapted from the XD series. The magazine loaders fit the rail on the holsters.
