Screw on (to a rib) rifle sights?
I've more than a couple 870s, only one which has a dedicated iron sighted barrel (improved/fixed choke).
All the others have vent rib/screw in chokes. I've bought a rifled choke tube & would like to try out some of the whiz-bang sabot slugs (that hi-vel Winchester @1900fps looks appealing). This particular barrel is Rem's 21" double-bead turkey barrel, which gives pretty fair accuracy, but I figure iron sights would be better to really see what these slugs are capable of. Anybody make an iron sight set-up that would just screw on to a vent rib? Obvious benny would be possible transfer to other shotguns + not having (another) dedicated slug barrel. TIA |

I tried the Williams set of rib mounted sights, and they were OK, for folks whose eyes work well with open sights. Mine do not.
A rifled choke tube will not duplicate the performance of a fully rifled bbl. I use one and it helps, but not critically. Stick with the full bore diameter slugs like the Forsters and Brennekes, and you'll be fine. |

Alrighty.
Didn't even consider that I can't used iron sights for beans on a rifle - somehow didn't translate over to a shotgun (slaps head) .... didn't think I was that old. The double beads line up like no tomorrow, but somehow that thin front sight on standard irons gets lost in a haze .... Probably saved me quite a few $$, Dave. Thanks. |

You're quite welcome. One thing possible with those rib mounted sights, one may be able to move the rear sight forward until it gets clear in your vision.
I'll look around, there may be a set here someplace.... |
