Welcome pigman1972
I am guessing it's the 7 mm Remington magnum your talking about is this correct?
If so because of the powder column I would most defiantly use a magnum primer to spark it off like Fed215 or rem 9-1/2 M primer WLRM primer.

It depends on the powder, but the 7mm Rem mag likes slow powders, like Reloader 22 or 25. Magnum primers are needed. The manual or web page normally specifies the primer used, and I do hope you are using published data. Don't guess.

RTFM when you have ANY doubt

I use CCI 250's in mine with IMR4831. Works great. I have never tried standard LR primers, my manuals all say Magnums so that's what I have used. With the right powder they would work.

You should get some more info! Buy a reloading manual if you don’t have one all ready, we post info but your doing the reloading and I take it you will be the one shooting the rifle, I just went to my reloading manuals and all three books list magnum primers for the 7mm Remington magnum.

The rule of thumb I have seen consistently is to use magnum primers for extreme cold weather and/or long cases(Rem 7mm Mag) with lots of slow powder.

I use magnum primers for 270 Win and Rem. 7mm Magnum. Typically, I use R22 powder for these cartridges. I use Rem, Fed and CCI large rifle magnum.

DO NOT READ THOSE RELOADING MANUALS!!!

We need colorful names like "Three Finger One Eye Pigman", so we can use you as a good bad example.

Primer

I reload for a friends 7mm rem mag I to use a CCI 250 Mag primer and I believe IMR 4831. But like everyone is saying get a manual for the bullet your using, and do what it says for that load. It's the only way to go. I have a ton of manuals drives the wife nuts. Things change so you need to keep upgrading.

I just picked up a Remington Sendero 7mm mag and asked my reloading partner the same question. Pretty much the same as above. Magnum primer first and large rifle primer if you don't have anything else.
