H380 loads?

Hi guys, A friend has several # of H380 he can not use for its intended purpose because of a health problem. I have agreed to buy it from him. I have never used this powder before. Anyone expereinced with H380 in .223, 308, 3006, 3030, 243? Most loads I have found are 3006. Will it work sastisfacterly in any other cal?
Thanks

It's my preferred powder for .243 with 80gr HP's. Your milage may vary.

H380

I use it in both my 6mm with 90 gr, Sierra FMJ/bt and my 7mm with 140 gr. Nosler Balistic tips. Getting great results through both.

Ripped from varmint hunter magazine corrections page.
Quote:
One of our members wrote to let us know there was an error regarding a bullet weight in David Biser's article on the Ruger No. 1, page 34. Mr. Biser referred to a "classic" load for the .22-250 cartridge consisting of a 55-grain bullet on top of 38.0 grains of Hodgdon H380 powder. (The 38 grains of powder is where H380 powder got its name.) In fact, the orginal "classic" load consists of a 52-grain bullet over 38 grains of H380 powder. This is mentioned on page 13 of Hodgdon Powder No. 27 Data Manual and some earlier editions of Hodgdon's handloading books.
Correction published in the January 2004 issue.
It's an older powder, check the older books.

50grs H380, 150 boat tail, LR primer, were tack drivers out of my 18" barrel 788.

H380

...works like gangbusters in my .308Win loads. It is my powder of choice for .308.

Have also been using it in .300WSM, and it works nice, but have not determined whether it is the best for my rifle.

As a side benefit, it flows like water through a powder measure. What's not to like?

H380 has a reputation for larger than usual lot-to-lot variation, and data varies considerably between manuals. That's no reason not to use it, just a heads up to use a little extra caution in working up loads.

Variation, hun??

Leftoverdj--I echo Ammo Junky--I never heard that abt H380! I'll have to watch & see if my next bottle of the stuff behaves any different in the rifles I load for.

H380

Guys, I'm in the same boat. I'm loading 22-250 rounds today with Sierra 53 gr HP match 1400's. I can't find any data for this bullet/powder combination. I bought a pound to try because a friends said it is a great powder for 22-250. Any suggestions for middle of the road load? Don't like to load maximum loads.

Sierra's 5th ed shows ...
22-250Rem/53SMK/H380: Min 35.5gr/3300fps to Max 39.2gr/3700fps (OAL=2.350"/26" barrel)

QuickLoad tells me that Sierra's Max Load above completely fills the case/produces 64,000psi (Cartridge Max is 65K) and 3,890fps. YMMV, of course.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BREAK BREAK...
I'm now running up M1A load candidates using the 175SMK and H380 -- (being careful to record the Lot#). It is performing on par w/ my IMR4895 loads (5-shot 3/4" bench groups when my eyes do their part). I had also heard the H380 lot-to-lot variation rumor, but also that this was holdover from its milsurplus days & bulk WC852 origins.
All of the above, except .308.
It's a common powder, with data easily obtained.
