My brother has a Mini-14 and wants to replace the front sight with a Meprolight sight and AK-74 muzzle brake. None of the local gunsmiths seem to eager to help. A few flat out said "NO". Maybe they're just not interested in new business? Are there legal implication to attaching the pin-on muzzle brake? Do any of you know how to get the front sight off? We've drifted out the spiral pin holding the front sight to the barrel but the darn thing is on there so tight, it won't budge. Do I have to heat the sight or something? Any information you can give will help. Thanks.

Lurch, heat it and tap it off. The legalities involved are determined by what the item is called. If it is a muzzle brake it's legal. If it is a flash suppressor and was not originally on the firearm it is illegal. George

Thank you George for your fast response. We'll give that a try. The muzzle brake is the one sold by Quality Parts (Bushmaster) and is advertised as a muzzle brake. Thanks again.
