Three loads tried so far in my DE Mk VII Circa 1994 . . .

2400 with a Magtech 240gr JSP, CCI LPM Primer, COAL set to 1.602

17.5gr: High - 1201, Low - 1078, E.S. - 123, Avg - 1153.5, SD - 29.3
18.5gr: High - 1229, Low - 1164, E.S. - 65, Avg - 1193.8, SD - 20.4
19.0gr: High - 1256, Low - 1197, E.S. - 59, Avg - 1225.7, SD - 17.3

The first two loads generated a total of 3 jams where the case failed to completely eject. No problems with the 3rd.

Spread and Standard Deviation improved dramatically from 17.5 to 18.5, and a bit more at 19. I'm going to try two additional loads: 19.5gr and 20gr. Depending on which gives me the greatest predictability, I'll fine-tune from there.

Oh, and WESHOOT2, I would've picked up some AA#9 if Cabelas had some in stock . . . alas. I'm liking the 2400 so far, though; it seems very clean.

H110 and W-W 296 have been out done by ?????

New powder gains first place in Heavy 44 magnum loads...... L'll GUN by Hodgen. It will beat any H110 load.

RE: L'IL GUN

There have been (anecdotal) reports that it can act erratically in the 357; it may be more 'abrasive' than the 2400/AA9/H110/N110/W296 'family'.

You should try standard primers with your 2400 loads. 2400 isn't typically used with magnum primers.

I wonder if the Magnum primers I used may explain why I'm getting in the low 1200's for the 19.5gr loads . . . they may be causing the powder to burn faster. I thought I'd get closer to 1300fps.

Interesting.
