Bullets for the Mosin's

Finally got a chance to cast up a bunch of bullets to try out in my 91/30 Tula with my new Accurate mold I had cut for it. The bullet is a 215 gr. FN when casting from wheel weights. I decided to PC these with clear gloss and sized them to .314" when I applied the gas check. All I have to do now is load up some test load using H-4895 at various charge weight to find the sweet spot for the highest velocity while still holding good accuracy. The bullet is designed mainly for hunting purposes an not long range shooting.

While I was at it I coated some of my Lee 185 gr. RN bullet that I've previously shot in the Mosin and SKS rifle. I know how they shoot with using traditional lube in both rifles so I have some data to comer the PC'ed bullets too. They almost look too nice to shoot but I can make more.

Gota couple new colors for Eastwood today and did a few test bullets.

L to R Smokes Clear Gloss, Eastwood Med. Green, Smokes Carolina BLue and Eastwood Maroon Red. I think I have enough different colors to satisfy my needs now.

The shoot pretty good out of the M91/30 without PC so I have something to compare them to. I'm also working on some loads using H-4895 as well for a long slow push to get the velocity up an not launch the bullet into the leads so hard like the 2400 does. They shoot very well is the SKS rifles also an lay a pretty good thumping on steel.

I know it's been awhile since I updated this thread on my cast loads in my 91/30. Life kinda got in the way when my father-in-law who is 81 fell and broke his ankle in several places and was out of commission for about six months so had to deal with all that but family comes first and it's been pretty nasty and cold this Winter around here on the days I had off so it is what it is.

Anyway I was able to get out for a couple hours with some loads I had worked up no serious fact finding mission just where the loads were headed accuracy wise with my new 215 gr. FN bullet mold I got from Accurate. Well it looks like I hit a good node with the 34.0 grs. of H-4895 I'm using. I will load up another batch of the 34.0 gr. loads so I can get some number on that as well as a couple more loads with 35.0 and 36.0 grs. and run them all through the chrono this time around.

Here is the 5 shot test load I shot over at my buddies house off some sand bags in his back yard range, the first test load with 33.0 grs. measured about 1.250" an dropped down to .750" with 34.0 grs. Hopefully it want be so long this time before I can get back out and do more testing.

Nice, looking to pick up a Mosin 91/30 to go along with my Enfield's and Mauser's. Thanks for the info.
