Executive orders on gun control coming tomorrow

Per Politico

Expected to require 'ghost gun' sales to go through FFL and speculation that other directives will be:

• regulations on concealed assault-style firearms
• prohibitions on firearm purchases for those convicted of domestic violence against their partners
• federal guidance on home storage safety measures

So, just nonsensical 'do something' posturing. I don't think you need an executive order to enforce an existing law, and what the heck are concealed assault weapons? Politico seems to think the CO mass shooter was using one?

Whelp. Here's hoping one of the national gun lobbies sues and it gets put on hold pending further court review. Happened to Trump all the time, so it will be good to see it happen to this president as well. Just have to contest it in a right leaning circuit court.

As far as I can see, the only one that would potentially be a problem is attempting to enforce private transactions through an FFL. I thought the law made exceptions for that?

The rest of it is just seems meaningless. I guess we'll have to wait to see the orders.

The first requires legislation and can't be done via executive order.

The second is already illegal.

The third is just fluff that doesn't affect anything.

According to them, those are the AR "pistols". Or anything else in that general size range made from an "assault weapon" design. They are able to be concealed under a coat...sort of...

And were used in recent mass shooting, so they must go!

Been the law since the Lautenberg Amendment, any MISDEMEANOR domestic violence conviction ever, renders you a prohibited person, for life. Its been the law for decades, look it up, bet mr Pinocchio didn't...

Guidance is what they think you ought to do, and entirely different from "required under penalty of law". As Tom says, its fluff.

and on the point about the "ghost guns"? Also for many many years (generations, actually) that home built firearm that does not have to be registered (today called a "ghost gun" is only free from the resigtration reqirements as long as it is owned by the person who made it. If that person sells it (or gives it away I think) then its under all the regular usual requirements (ser#, paper trail from manufacturer, etc.)

SO, it seems that these executive orders only amount to covering previously existing laws and some guidelines for "safe" storage.

Something to make people think they are doing something, when in reality they are not, and doing absolutely nothing what so ever about the problem of people shooting people for fun or profit.

So, basically any handgun is now an SBR? Lol, good luck with that, I'm pretty sure there are about 3x as many handguns as there are rifles in the US.

I agree with post 2, they pull any baloney with braces and pistols, a gun lobby should do judge shopping and maybe find one in Alaska to put a stay on that EO. Maybe eventually SCOTUS will get their hands on it and we can have a proper review of the constitutionality of SBR regulation in regards to the NFA.
