Is there such thing as a rifled barrel for a .410 Mossberg 500?

The question is," What's it for"?
410 slugs do not have enough moxie for deer hunting, and at HD ranges a spinning projectile is no more practically accurate than one from a smoothbore.

Tatters, the only rifled .410 barrels that I'm aware of are found only for single shots like the TC Contender Carbine and the NEF Handi-Rifle. They are rifled to handle the .45 Colt and come with a choke for use with .410 shotgun shells.

I think this is a bad idea and would fire the .45 Colt and the .410 shot shells both poorly. Rifling does bad things to shot paterns, even with a choke to try to counteract that effect at the muzzle. And the .45 Colt would have to travel a LONG way before contacting riflings in a barrel meant to handle 3" .410 shot shells. This would definitely effect accuracy.

Regards! DaMan

I would use it just as one would use a 12 ga rifled barrel, except for varmints and such smaller critters. Not with shotshells, but with slugs.

Am I thinking wrong, are .410 slugs good for anything?

Would I be better to use 00 buck?

I would say that .410 slugs aren't good for much unless all you have is a 410 shotgun. Even the smallest of certerfire rifles is more effective on most anything. If you are buying it for deer, stick with 12 or 20ga. There is no practical advantage by going to 410 IMHO.

Tatters,#6 shot suffices for fox sized critters, and 7 1/2 shot for anything crow sized or smaller, even from the itty bitty 410.Keep your shots close and you should do OK.
