I tried a 2-7X32 scope that was just too big. I plan to buy a 1-4X20 I get around to it. I plan on getting a Leupold VX-1 for around $200. I have a couple on some AR's and am really pleased.

Some of the smaller fixed power scopes will work too.

I have a Simmons 22 Mag 4X32 http://www.amazon.com/Simmons-TruPle...mag+riflescope mounted in CVA Z 2 quick detachable rings.http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CVA-DS40...item4187b0abcf
The scope easily comes off, and stores in the pocket provided in the carry case that my Ruger came with. It goes back on easily, and retains zero perfectly.
On my first range session, after minimal sighting in, I shot two mags (20 rounds) in a group the size of my thumb nail @50 yes. Removed the scope, took the gun apart, reassymbled everything, and fired another 10 round group to the same point of impact.

What about one of those sks scopes.

My sks has this exact combo on it and it works fine. Seems like it would work just as good on a 22lr.

save up

The 10/22 is not a very big rifle, and to me, any "full size" scope looks a bit awkward on them.

Save your pennies, and watch for a Leupold Rimfire Special, the fixed 4x should be about ideal. The Rimfire 2-7x is a bit larger but might be an option, but more expensive too.

Ebay has worked for me for some deals.
