M&P Shield 9mm 8 to 10 Mag Extension

Hi all,
I searched the forum but could not see the answer.
I want to add a +2 magazine Extension to one of my Shield 9's 8 round mag.
So my carry is 10+1.
What have people used and can recommend for this?

Thanks,

Mackie244 / Bud

I used the Magguts plus 2 extension kit on the stock 8 rounder magazine.
I carry with the plus one kit on my 7 rounder so have nine on the gun, and carry the spare mag with the plus 2 kit for 10 extra rounds.
Here in CA we have the stupid 10 round limit, so nothing is lost with the single stack.

Taran Tactical or MagGuts are my choices. The Taran is easier to install, while the MagGuts takes a little more patience to get configured correctly. But once installed I like the MagGuts better for carry as they only add about 1/4" to the mag length. Both have been totally reliable for me.

E.M.P. Enhanced Magazine Plate
The Strike Industries extensions are half the cost of the MagGuts, TTI, or Hyve extensions which is nice. But I don't love how large they are at all. They were designed to be a +2 for the 7 round 9mm mags, but even then they end up being longer than the factory 8 round magazine. If you add them to the 8 rounders to get a 10+1 configuration like the OP is seeking then they get downright enormous in length, which I think starts getting counterproductive on a pistol designed to be small and concealable.

Thanks again for the replies..

S&W should just make a 10 round magazine.
It would then match guns like the new P365 that is 10+1
I mean how hard would it be and I read that there are over two million M&P Shields.
S&W would make a lot of $$$$ compared to a $33.00 MagGuts.
Oh well!
I sent a message to S&W via their Contact link on their website.

So it looks like my best option is the MagGuts for the 8 round Mag (10 + 1)

Link here:
https://www.magguts.com/collections/...-9mm-2-magguts

Now the sixty four thousand dollar question...Where can I get one?
Should it be locally available?
I checked the Shoot Straight website (one around the corner from me) but do not see MagGuts listed.
Bass Pro on-line also does not show MagGuts.
I thought I'd pick one up today....

Is this pretty much a MagGuts website purchase only?
The only other place Google shows it is Ebay for $36.95 free shipping.

Thanks again

That's why the magguts is so cool. That 2+ and the slight extention base is less than 1/4 inch longer than the stock 8 round base. They add a round by using a metal steel follower and the spring is a special flat plate that really compresses while holding greater tension.

That is the stock extension sleeve over the magguts plate, so you can compare it to one being over the stock smith baseplate.

Hi all,
So I thought that I'd do a update.
After searching locally for MagGuts and coming up empty I went to the MagGuts website and ordered the MagGuts +2 for my Shield 9mm.

It arrived 2 days later and I installed it into one of my 8 round magazines
The conversion went relatively smooth due to the many video instructions.
Then I loaded up the Mag with 10 rounds.

As far as carrying differences I noticed NONE!
No extra printing and just as comfortable to my side.
If you look at the Mag picture you can see that it's a 1/4" longer for 2 rounds.

I did send a email to S&W saying that they should actually make a 10 round mag.
S&W responded:

Your comments are being forwarded to the Marketing Department and appropriate Management Team for review and consideration for future production.
It's probably just a BS packaged response but they did respond!

With all of the talk about the new Sig P365 and it's 10+1 configuration I now have that with my single stack Shield.
Of course I can't get the optional 12 + 1 config with the optional 12 round Sig mag but I'm only 2 rounds away.

Next week I'll get to the range and check out my MagGuts Shield mag.
However I expect no problems because I have never seen one review or youtube video that shows even one malfunction loading rounds into the Shield.

It's never a bad thing adding carry rounds!

Glad to hear you are pleased with the MagGuts extension. The setup that I’ve really enjoyed most is the use of their spring and baseplate on the 7 round magazine to get 9 rounds on a magazine even shorter than the factory 8. I’ve been running that plus a TTI +2 on an 8 round magazine to get 9+1+10 for an EDC setup and love it. I trust your MagGuts setup will run flawless for you as well.
