Suggestions for loading Sierra 175 HPBT Match Moly in Rem 700 VS.

I just ordered some of the Sierra 175's and was wondering if any of you have loaded with IMR 4064 and with what success? Screw liability, I am competent and will not hold you liable for my responsible reloading. So help a brother out and tell me where I should start and maybe stop. I have had good groups with my 168's at 43.0 grs of 4064 and my Hornady 178's did well at 42.0 grns 4064. I figure I will probably start at about 42 for the Sierra 175's. Any suggestions? What about Win 748, win 760, or IMR 4895 for these 175's. Thanks brothers and sisters, good shooting to you.

Thanks to everyone who posted and helped me out with this one. I decided after all of your help that I would go ahead and start at 41.9 grns of IMR 4064 and then increase in .3 grns increments to 43.1 grns. I did this this evening right after my bullets arrived from UPS. I will go shoot the rounds tomorrow and I will post my results for all of you who posted and gave me some help. Thanks.

El Rojo: I've got some of the Sierra 175's too, but haven't had a chance to try them. As far as powders go, 4064 and 4895 are pretty good, but lots of shooters brag about Varget. I just got some of that too, but haven't tested it. I have used 45 grs of H380 with 168s in .308 Federal Match brass and Lake City Match brass. That gives about 2550fps or thereabouts and nice tight groups. Go to http://www.snipercountry.com for loads of info on .308s.

I use 4895 with the 175, works good here is a pic of a target with load at 125yrds....load is with 42grns group is of 5 rds, got excited and pooped a flyer

I load on the dillon and with the large charge it meters fine...just thought I'd let ya know another option if you needed one...good luck...

Here are my test results. I have Chrono data too, but it is late and I am getting tired. I fired 3 shots for each different powder weight at both 100 yards and 300 yards. I was really impressed with some of my 100 yard groups, but I don't think I had a solid enough rest for the 300 yard shots. The closest at 300 yards were the #4 group of 42.8 grains of 4064. #5 would have been on, but I jerked my last shot! I decided to go with 42.8 grains of 4064 because it shot pretty darn good and I figured why push the pressure and charge up to 43.1 when I don't really have too.

In both pictures, the black squares are 3/4".

And finally, how are groups measured? Is it from the center of the holes or from the farthest out? I think I have always measured from farthest out. If it is the center holes, then I am in serious business at 100 yards!

El Rojo - standard scoring method is center-to-center. So measure from outside edge-to-outside edge, and subtract one bullet diameter.

1.234 OD-OD
-.308 bullet dia

0.926 spread

That means my first group at 100 yards was a .3795" group. Out of a factory gun with just minor trigger work? I will take it!

And my #4 group from 300 yards was just under 2". 2/3 Moa seems pretty acceptable for me. This gun is great. These loads are great.
