1911 Wraparounds?

I'm trying some different stocks for target shooting with the 9mm Commander.

Anyone else shoot with wraparounds?

Friend's letting my try these "Ro Co" target stocks.

Hope to see how they shoot soon.

No-name wraparounds with finger grooves - shot with them today, and they're comfy with my spider monkey fingers.

They certainly change the aesthetics of a 1911. Not to my liking, but everyone has their own ideals.

I have some barbeque stocks, but these are strictly utilitarian for target shooting.

I don't care for those but I have a set of rubber Pachmayr's with the checkered front strap that feel good and don't look half bad.

I've got wrap arounds on a couple of Colts. The grips are nothing to look at but they feel great:

For me, the way a gun looks is comparable to the way my car looks. If it doesn't please my eye, I change it until it does, and it must be completely functionable. However, that's me. Its what works for you that counts. If it feels right in your hand, go for it. If it does not, look for something that will make it more comfortable.

Those wrap around stocks work for some. I think the checkered stocks that are standard on many 1911s are just about perfect. I see some REALLY nice stocks produced by Esmeralda. Just drop dead beautiful. I am going to have to get a pair or two.

I've got a nice set of cocobola grips that I really like but on that flat parkerized finish they look like lipstick on a pig.

These look better on the gun as a whole and feel pretty good too.

Thanks, it's a bone stock M1991A1 sent to Colt for a Royal Blue refin. They did swap out the plastic trigger and MSH. Other than the Ahrends stocks, it's "as is".

I figured those were Ahrends grips, Kim was the first to do that checkering pattern, others have copied his work.

No large blocky sights to obscure what you are shooting at, no extended or oversized controls, no BS paint job, instead a real finish for a sweet classy Colt.

That's a gun I would be proud to own.

I put a set of Hogue wrap around rubber grips on my Springfield Armory 1911a1 the day I bought it about 25 years ago. That was the single best upgrade I've done to this gun...

Ive shot a 1911 with and without the pachmayr groove grips.
I must say the grips make big difference.

I like my 1911 grips smooth, and I like them slim - as slim as possible. I've tried several wraparound grips, including the Pachmayr grips with fingerswells, and hated them. Right now I have a nice set of rosewoods on my carry 1911.

While they don't have the aesthetics of nice wood or other exotic material, I find the Hogue grips work very well for me. Of all my handguns, this gun fits my hand the best. I was only going to try them for a short time but that was 10 years ago.

I dislike the looks of Hogues, but I somehow keep buying them for every firearm I own. They feel great--especially great on a 1911. I made a point to start stippling them though.

Put Hogue's on my SR1911. Love em. Still think the factory wood grips are prettier though. I like the feel of the Hogue's better and like em for carry.

Hogue's on a 1911 are like putting Spinners on a Chevelle SS.

If there's an issue with control, I'd get more aggressive pattern grips (like VZ Operators) and checker the front strap.

No issues with control, but slow-fire target shooting is, to me, a different animal.

My spider monkey fingers seem to like the thicker, target-style stocks.

In fact, old school bullseye shooters have been using target stocks for decades.

My wife just ordered Hogue wraparounds for an STI Guardian. The thought of it makes me cringe, but if she likes them then that's what matters.

Don't forget that pierce grips makes a rubber finger groove insert you install under stocks of you choice. Kind of like the wood/rubber ones.
