Firing an Airgun Pellet from a Centerfire Rifle
Some may regard this as going backwards, but interesting none the less. Loading down centrefires with airgun pellets to airgun velocities. Shows .17, .20, .22, .25 and .357's loaded.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LURS89_O1JU This has been a known practice, but I've never seen it covered over such a range of calibers with chrony'd results.. |

Cool video. Looks like the .357 could have benefited from a lighter pellet.
I wonder, is there a drill/step drill that cuts a shotgun primer pocket all at once? |

I drill the primer hole itself slightly larger and shoot 22 pellets with CCI #41 primers with my 223 contender. Never tried on in a rifle but should work fine.

Some folks have shot BB's from .17 Rem primed cases. Works fine.

That guy could have been talking about nail polish, and I still would have enjoyed listening to him talk. It was very relaxing listening to that dude.

In the early 1960s I would put a 22 cal pellet in front of a 22 rimfire crimped blank in a 22LR chamber.
This performed like a good pellet gun.

I dont think you are likely to get a lighter pellet in .357, some of them big bore airguns launch "pellets" more akin to bullets at near supersonic speeds.

Onewing you are correct. My Quakenbush rifles will launch them at high velocity. I am going to cast some of my 405 grain hollow base bullets that I use in my .45-70 and test them out next time I go to my folks place, and take them out of the safe. Neither are quiet either.

17 Remington has a .172 bore groove diameter and a BB gun is .177 standard and .175 precision. Just because it can be done doesn't make it a good idea. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2 |

I had to giggle when reading the title post. We did this when I was a kid. We would take a 22 cal rifle, and shove a 22 pellet in the barrel down close to the end of the riflings, then load a 22 cal blank. We used the small Acorn blanks, and the 22 cal starter pistol blanks. Shot pretty good! lol!

The second part to the video was just posted, "Hunting with Airgun Pellets from a Centerfire", pretty effective! nailing pest birds with the .25/06.

If you're ok with that great. As I said before I don't like the idea and I wouldn't do it to one of my rifles. |
