wc872 and cast boooolits 308
i only shoot 308's in reduced loads. 8gr of unique works great. 160g boolit. would the wc872 work if i only need sub 1000fps<2000 or so?

Hello, beex215. Have you thought of IMR TrailBoss? I am using 10.0grs. under a 100gr. Ideal 245438. in an original 1895 Winchester-Lee .236 straight-pull sporter. With it's rear open buckhorn & German silver blade front, at 50yds., it is grouping under 3/4". At 100yds. 1 1/4". Recoil and report about like a .223! Lot of FUN!

Yes, it will work for that, although velocity will be significantly below 2,000 fps. A 30-06 and a 200 gr cast boolit will barely reach 2,000 fps with a compressed case of WC872. 160 grains is a bit light for such a slow burning powder, but you'll never have to worry about a double charge, and I don't think gas checking would be necessary, but always best to check how your barrel works.

i wasnt looking for trail boss. i already use unique for a reduced load. i havent loaded higher then 16 grains and mostly stick to 8-10 grains. i know what its capable of and need info on wc872 as its cheap enough to experiment on.
i want the velocity to be well under 2000fps. my current load in 308 replicates a 40sw i believe. i think ill get a jug and see. |

Heh, if you happen to be in the Fort Knox Area I'll sell you a jug at cost, I bought 6 of the darn things for gun show trading stock (gave one away to a friend who is setting up to reload for his 7mm Rem Mag) so I have five 8 pound jugs left. I've been thinking I should just build another 300 Win Mag "sniper rifle" when I get back so I can take advantage of 220 gr SMK's
