What sights to use on a Glock

I have a G33 as my primary carry and I've narrowed it down between ghost sight/dead ringer or those Israeli TAS fiber optic sights (that don't need a front sight) to replace the stock Glock sights. Does anyone have any experience with either and have any pros or cons they would like to mention about them or even better sight choices for self defense?

I havent tried either of those, although I did try one of the ghost rings when they first came out.

I found the ghost ring on a pistol to be more of a distraction than a help. They dont work like a true rifle peep, thats close to your eye, and still require you to align the sights, as opposed to shooting through them.

To be fair, I havent tried a set with the dots on them, and they may work better, since you do have a horizontal reference, something mine were lacking.


I guess its just Ive been using the traditional "three dot" night sights so long now, its hard to change. Im so used to them, I dont have to think about them when the gun is presented, and I actually see the dots, before I see a traditional blade and notch sight picture. I have to shift focus to get one, and generally dont do that, until the targets are at 25 yards and beyond.

I have been meaning to give one of the pistol mounted "red dots" a try though, just havent got around to it. Im also afraid Im going to like it, and have to have one on everything I carry after that. A tad to pricey for that right now.

I have been using them on long guns for about 15 years now, with very good results, and I would imagine, once you get them down on a handgun, they would give similar results.

If you really like the ones you listed, if no one else weighs in, maybe you get to be the guinea pig, and you can give us a report.

I don't really like the "gimmick" type sights nor do I like the factory sights that come on a Glock. I have 6 Glocks and I do the same thing to all of them even my G34 that I shoot in 3 gun.

I put a Heinie Slant Pro Black rear sight on it, no dots or tritium. On the front I use a Heinie steel sight with a small tritium insert .215" tall.

At night I can pick up the front sight fast because it is the only one that is glowing and during the day the sights are black, like sights should be.

These sights line up fast and work well for me, YMMV.

Having tried almost every sight combination on the market...

Get the Trijicon HD sights with the yellow front. You can come back and thank me when you're done.

Seriously though, they are the best sights available for a fighting/defensive gun today. Support fast acquisition and capable of surprisingly great accuracy. I've spent nearly 2 grand fitting HD's to almost every one of my guns for which they are made.

Fiber optic sights don't work at night for me. Tritium isn't visible for me when I turn my TLR-3 (125 lumens) on. But, at least the tritium glow clearly shows where your muzzle is pointed, up until you turn your light on.

For a ghost ring sight to actually help the shooter it needs to be much larger or much closer to your eye than the pistol ghost ring sights currently on the market.

I have to agree that the Trijicon HD sights are probably the best option.

Those Israeli fiber optic sights look like they would be excellent during the day, but for a carry gun, you need sights that work all the time.

Currently have Trijicon's on mine. I blacked out my rear sights today with a sharpie. I like the cleaner sight picture. The tritium still works at night. I will probably mark the front sight as well. I find black sights like a revolver and less distracting.

Currently researching sights myself and think I've decided on Ameriglo. Reasonable prices, and worth a look before you pony up the money for the trijicons...

I do not have one but the Fiber optic + Tritium front sight (Truglo TFO) would be nice.
Novak FO Tactical Front sights would be nice, too.

Plain black serrated on rear -- many choices (Heinie Ledge, Dawson Charger, Novak, etc).

TRU GLO TFO sights a close second for me. They would be much closer if you didn't lose do much sight radius due to the long front sight.

The speed sights are on my G23C.

At $170 delivered, they cost a bit. Night sights are bright. The unique shape makes easy to see where spot on target is.

I like the straight-8 configuration with one tritium dot in the rear and a tritium lamp in the front with a larger white or colored ring around it. Wide, square rear notch. Ameriglo I-Dots are my preference.

I have been switching over to XS big dot sights, as funds permit. Have them on a 1911 and a couple of revolvers.

I found door frames and other hard, usually vertical surfaces, were hard on the plastic sights.

My first 17 came with the adjustable rear sight, which I promptly broke off while in my holster, when I clipped a door jamb. I was still able to use the "base" as an improvised sight until the replacement came.

Even the fixed plastic rear sights seem to get beat up pretty easy, with normal day to day use.

The factory night sights, which are metal, hold up much better.
