Sierra 7mm Rem Mag load data needed...

Does anyone have Sierra's 7mm Rem Mag data for the 100gr Varminter bullet using Alliant Reloader 22?
I think it's 76grs max, but I can't remember the max load OR the specified OAL for that bullet in the Sierra manual.

3.135" appears to seat it very close to the magical "seat it to one bullet diameter" rule, but I'd like to see what Sierra shows for that bullet.

Thanks in advance!

The 5th edition Sierra manual has 67.6 grains to start, 71.4 grains maximum. COL 3.150". Federal case and Federal 215 primer.

I've given up on the idea of magical seating depths. See too many exceptions. One caliber into the case has worked for a number of rounds, but you want to test it to see if it's right in your gun.

Thanks Nick.
Interesting- They show a considerably lighter load for the 100gr than Alliant does for 110gr Speer HPs with RL22. I think that's even lighter than their 120gr data for RL22. Though Alliant shows the same (long) cartridge OAL for every 7mm bullet that they list for the RemMag. How useful!

I'll typically start a given OCW load workup with the one caliber deep rule, and then adjust from there. It's a nice starting rule of thumb just like "seat .010 off of the lands".

I thought The Rule was seat 0.020" off the lands. Wait, no, that's 0.015". Wait, no, that's 0.025". Wait no, it's 0.005" off the lands. Wait, no, it's 0.030" off the lands. Wait, no, it's. . .

You get the idea. After awhile you'll have read them all reported as The Rule in one place or another. I've concluded over time that The Rule depends mainly on whatever the reporter last got or saw someone getting really good results with. Check out this interesting description from Eric Stecker at Berger.

I am using compressed Re22 with 180 gr bullets in 7mmRM for hunting.

So that powder would be kind of slow for 100 gr bullets.

RL 22 and 100 gr bullets in a 7 mm mag doesn't seem like a great fit, but my Sierra manual agrees with what UncleNick says. No doubt it will work, just seems like an odd combination of cartridge, bullet, powder.

Wait...you got a 7mm Mag. to shoot 100 gr. bullets???? Wouldn't a .243 Win. do you a much better job? That's one hell of a lot of powder to use in reloads just to fire a 100 grainer. Seems like a giant mismatch to me.

FWIW, my 7mm Mag. performs best with 150, 160 & 175's using IMR 4831.

Everybody's a wit.

Why this load occurred:
My dad has a 7mm-08. Whenever he becomes displeased with a given bullet in his finicky pencil barreled Model 7 Remington or one of his .223s, boxes of bullets show up on my reloading bench, usually with 47 bullets left or something strange like that. The same thing happens with random cases, powders he doesn't like, etc. They just show up magically when my parents stop by.

So,the other day while rooting around in my components stash, I found a partial box (40) 100gr .284" Sierra Varminters. I have a great quantity of primed 7mmRM brass after a recent massive case prep session. I check the powder shelf:a new can of Rel22 and a 2/3 full keg of of WC872 pulldown powder (20mm cannon powder that burns slower than H870 and only cost $38 per keg). The next slowest powder I have is a partial can of IMR 4064.

So obviously, the best choice here is to stuff in a max load of RL22 and try to make 100gr bullets red shift out of my Abolt.
