Pump or Semi for competion?

Sorry if this has already been posted, I read the first three pages and gave up

I'm just about to get into practical shotgun comps in the UK.

It seems they are going to split the various type into different catagories so you don't have 9 shot semis competing against 5 shot pumps etc which seems to be the case just now.

But bearing in mind I'm a newbie what are the pros and cons of both. Most of the rounds will be solid slug.

I'm not worried about recoil (I like it ), I've spent plenty enough time with a club gun, 5 shot Remmington, chucking 3" slugs down range to know I'm OK with the bang. It caused the RO some ammusement that I managed to group the shots, apparently most folk new to the 12 ga drop it and run away after the first bang.

I guess I'm looking for advice about reliability (both during the comp and after 1,000 rounds), how easy is it to clear stoppages, how many springs fall out when you take them apart etc.

Thanks
