How to remove a barrel...

on a Romanian SKS that is threaded? Are they rt or lh hand threads? Do you have to heat the receiver?
What else is critical to removeing the barrel without ruining either the barrel or the receiver? All your help is appreciated.

Turning off the barrel shouldn't be a problem. Remember "Lefty loosy, righty tighty"

You need to make some sort of a jig to hold the barrel in a vice, a couple pieces of soft wood or lead, and clamp it down good. The reciever can be a problem. You want to put together something that will hold the receiver evenly across the whole area that is being clamped. I used a heavy strap wrench with success.

Also, even if you have a Romanian maodel, be darn sure that someone didn't jamb the barrel into the receiver. Look at the threads that should be showing inside the reciever, if they are clean and sharp, you're probably okay on this.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info

I finally used a couple of 36" pipe wrenches and some heat on the receiver only and it came off after leaving it outside all nite to get the bbl cold and it just came off without many marks on the bbl and receiver.I plan on doing a cammo job on this weapon when I get finished with it. The bbl marks ground down with a dremmel and a few coats of cold blue and looks great now. Thanks for the tips....
