Ithaca Model 500 SKS Safety

In 1967, I purchased an Ithaca 500 over and under in 12 gauge. Unlike some other double barrel shotguns I've used, this one has never automatically switched to the safety position when the breach is opened.

Has this shotgun bee faulty since day one?

my browning citori,s don,t go on safe when I open the shogun either. these are o/u,s. and I like it that way and have conditioned my self to pull the safety back on with my thumb. the auto safety can be easyily disabled on most O/U-DB shotguns by a able gunsmith.

eastbank,

SKS is SKB. Thanks. I have had this shotgun for 50 years and have become accustomed, like you, to not having it jump to safety.

If the Browning Citori had been available when I bought my Ithaca, I would have purchased the Citori.

Thanks.
