Berry's 115 gr RN and HP-38
I've been loading Rainier 115 gr plated hollow points with 4.6 gr HP-38, wsp, mixed brass, and O.A.L. 1.099. These shoot very soft and cycle all three of my Glocks perfectly.
A friend suggested that I try Berry's, so I ordered 1000 115 gr RN directly from the website. Haven't received them yet, so I can't measure the bullets against the Rainiers, but I know they have different profiles. So my question is, what is a good powder starting weight and a good safe O.A.L. for the Berry's 115 gr RN and Hodgdon HP-38? I don't want anything too hot, just something about like WWB or a little softer shooting. Thanks |

That was the first place I looked before posting my question. They don't have data for my particular bullet/powder combo. They have lead data for HP-38 but not for plated or jacketed bullets in 115 gr. I know there has to be at least a few members loading Berry's 115 gr RN 9mm and HP-38. I don't think the bullet profiles are the same with the Berry's and lead round nose, is it? My main concern is the O.A.L so as not to make the cartridge too short and increase the pressure too much.

I have been using the Hodgdon 1.125 C.O.L 4.7 to 5.1 grain data, but I load at the 1.130 C.O.L. I seem to have good luck within this area, but I might try loading the 1.100 and see how that works. Oh yea, I am loading the Berry's 115 round nose with HP-38 powder. I am also shooting them through a Walther PPS so the recoil is a little more than with a full sized pistol. I shoot the Berry's in 9mm, S&W 40, and 38 special and find them all to perform well. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Berry's.

Thanks Mike. I'll try the O.A.L. next time I load a batch.
