Well, one needs a drop tube when you get charge weights over 26 grains or so. Varget contrary to the OP is one of the most versatile powders for the whole range of bulets from 40 to 90gr in the 223. Nothing but nothing comes even close. One has to accept that for lighter bullets one needs a drop tube, but then if someone was a seasoned reloader they would know that.
Obviously this person is not very seasoned! |

+1 Just last weekend my Remington 700 in 223 with 68 gr Hornady GR BTHP with Varget held sub 1 MOA at 100 yards. Must have been a fluke. Granted it took 6 different loads before I got there but that’s what load development is. What’s the possibility that it’s the gun, or the shooter? |

Varget works best with heavy bullets, but then with your vast knowledge, you should have known that..

Well, I could never get it to perform nearly as well as H322, but "garbage"?

Wow, I never knew how bad Varget was till today.
Strange though, my cousin went to West point and took first place in the limited division with loads stuffed to the rim with varget. I should call him to tell him he could have done better....LOL http://www.usma.edu/uscc/dca/clubs/guns/results.html

While I can't say it's "garbage :barf:," I have had my best heavy/77gr bullet luck with AA2520.

He started this thread/rant because in his words, "I like arguments".
He's a troll and I call them as I see them. |

Until you post some pictures of targets and groups, your rants mean nothing. If you are so great at load development let's see some target pictures. Don't forget to wipe the unburnt powder off them. I love threads that are started that have NO substance.

Or you could donate it to me! I would at least dispose of it properly...................Down range!

I was able to hit clays at 100 yards with a red dot optic using 55FMJ BT 25.5 Varget in my AR.

"Varget will never ever be the most accurate powder when it comes to .223, most the time you can't even fit enough powder in the case or get a power thrower to throw it accurately..."
Ah! The volunteered certain wisdom of a true expert who we must trust routinely obtains sub .010" groups, guess there's no more anyone needs to know about that! Wonder if ol' B-Rad has considered attending the Super Shoot with one of his garden variety .223 rifles, he could wipe 'em out easily! But, even "a power (?) thrower can't throw (Varget) accurately"! Who of us would have thought of that as an "accurate" powder criteria? Still, I can't help but wonder if our new resident guru understands that powder burn rates must be matched to the cartridge and bullet so the perhaps the 'failure' of his Varget loads came from his poor initial choice. Or does he yet need to test one of the 4831s to find another and even more "inaccurate .223 powder"? Last edited by wncchester; June 22, 2011 at 08:42 PM. |

I guess I need to tell the Sierra 69gr MK's and the Hornady 75gr BTHP Match bullets to not shoot so well out of my RRA AR15 and Savage 12 FLVSS,because they love being propelled by Varget.
They also like BL-C(2) and Reloader 15. |
