Texas Dove Season starts tomorrow

I am sooooo looking forward in getting out into the field again. My favorite time of year. Weather is still warm (or hot depending). The dove are flyin' and college football is back!

Same here - doves manyana; hockey season, football season, cool weather, and deer season all coming soon - favorite time of year, without a doubt!

Going to a friend's ranch in Carrizo Springs. We spend most of our time along one of the tree lines or in the sesame field. It's also a nice time to get a look at the dear we'll be shooting a couple months later. Tons of hogs down there, so I'll be bringing my .30-06 as well.

Going to Brownwood, TX on an all paid catered deal to hunt dove for 2 days starting Tuesday. Should be a fun way to start the season off.
Then teal season;
Then alligator season;
Then deer bow season;
Then regular duck season; and finally
Deer gun season.
Oh yeah, second half of split season for ducks!

Yes!.....I do like this time of the year.

Don't dove hunt, but I work next door to a large Feed mill. I noticed the last 2 or 3 weeks that the bigger, northern doves, have been everywhere picking up the grain that is left on the side of the road, by the feed trucks going in and out.

The temperature here, has gone from 106 degrees to 85 in the last week, with lows in the 60's at night.
I noticed this morning that there were not any doves eating on the side of the road. Looks like the cooler weather may have pushed them south, so you guys in North Texas should be shooting a bunch, this week-end.

We get screwed in the South Zone. There are tons of birds right now while the season is open in the REST OF THE STATE!

We'll get a little norther, and and all we get to shoot at is a few w/ oxygen masks on flying the speed of sound come opening day. Sure, we get to hunt doves an extra 2 weeks...yippee...nothing to shoot at, but darn it, we get to do it. That's TP&W'S Lousy excuse to us anyway. OH, but you can shoot them in the Valley...Why not open the season statewide on the 1st???

This really chaps me if you couldn't tell...

Well, California dove hunting season is officially opened! Sept 1st!! Got my limit (10 birds) in about half an hour! Birds were everywhere! I went back to the same place nd it was dead! I shot 2 bird in about 4 hours! Although, I noticed weather was a little cooler Sunday..

Let's see. While dove hunting, saw about 12 ducks, 1 kingfisher, 1 buzzard, 1 quail, 1 heron, several tweety birds, ZERO doves. Even the doves that are normally there were gone (the resident doves). Kinda hard to shoot em if they ain't there.

Same story my son came home with yesterday (Almost) They did get 12 dove, but spent from daylight till dark getting them. He's beginning to think he wasted his $50.00 lease fee again this year.

Spent the weekend mostly piddling around Ballinger. Many of the birds I saw saw me first and acted like I was planning to try and kill 'em or sumthin ...

Went today-- had a great time with Dad and the dog and a coupla old 1100's, even though I only got three dove.
