Red rubbing off...

Walther PPQ M2 showed a small deposit of a red substance in the frame, right at the abutment of the dust cover. The recoil spring, which seems to be the same color, showed bright metal in a small segment that would align with the deposit in the frame. Does the spring have some sort of oblative coating? Is this a problem?

Sure hope not, because that thing shoots great.

If like other manufacturers the color is just a paint to distinguish one recoil spring from another, i.e. 9mm vs 40sw. Sometimes it wears off.

It is unsafe to shoot. Box it up, send it to me for proper disposal.

Seriously, sounds like some paint flake from the spring. I wouldn't do much worrying about it.

Thanks, both of you.

M12, I've got it boxed carefully.

Send me your address and FFL.

And your signed check; I'll put the numbers in when it gets here...

Denoting a range .... ???

In my previous life, I worked with instrument controls. Many had color coded springs that denoted the range of compression or extension. That might be the case in springs related to other uses, including firearms. With out proper labeling, how do you differentiate between a 10# or 12# spring? Simple, color-code it. Some were solid color and then other, just had a dot or two. ....

Be Safe !!!

Great comeback to this often used response. Wish I would have thought of it first.

Probably happening because the mag release is in the wrong place.
