What's your longest shot? Not good enough

I thought hitting a golf ball at 550 yards was pretty good, but the same company of long range Canadian snipers hits an ISIS combatant at 3,450 METERS / 2 miles.

Don't mess with Canadian snipers!

Hitting a golf ball at 550 IS really good. That Canadians shot is unreal to even fathom.

I think I would put that shot in the category of Inshallah.

I'm assuming it was a .50 BMG rifle. Whatever the caliber, that's fine shooting...

I can't SEE that far! I was happy to hit my 1/2 scale IDPA steel target with the 527M at 300 yards, and excited to repeatedly hit the 3/4 scale steel at 200 yards with the BREN 805 standing. Anything past that I'm probably not too good - no optics.
2 miles....wow...

257 Wby-500 meters- coyote- first shot hit-DRT
22/250- 0.3 mile measured by snowmobile speedometer- coyote- first round hit-cripple
22/250- 440 yards(+/-)- 8 to 10 coyotes over a 4 year span- first round hit-DRT
22lr-approx 450 yards - 5 gallon bucket- walked the hits around until "spotter" declared a hit- 15-20 shots fired
First round hits are what count on targets that can walk away.

10 seconds to hit...wow! All the guy had to do was take a half a step to the side in that time. Unbelievable shot.

Smoked a speed goat this past fall out in Wyoming from 505 yards out. Perfect shot with the .300wby Mark V ultra lightweight right through the lungs and top of his heart. Needless to say he didn't make it far

I don't shoot long range much and when I do it's at paper target's only. Shot a deer one time at 330yds measured. Did it just to say I could.

2 miles. How did the guy spot the target in the first place and what did he use for a scope that was powerful enough to aim well at that range? I'm not sure I believe the range. Of course if it is true, they guy did t because he couldn't get closer!

I kill skeet targets sitting on a rack at 80 yds with 45 ACP.

I killed a white tail at 72 long steps with a bow.

I killed a white tail buck at 127 yds with a SBH in 44 Mag.

Longest rifle shot was 342 yds. at a white tail buck. Took maybe 8 steps.

I killed a 12 point white tail buck at 70 mph with a '65 Pontiac.

Actually the flight time of a 750gr / 822 gr match round out to 3500 meters is about 5.5 seconds, not 10 seconds. I don't know what round he used but expect it was at least a 750 grain if not (unofficially) a solid turned bore rider.

That is some good shooting! I've hit a 12x12 gong from 800 yards, twice in a row. Though in full disclosure it took me many tries before I got it right......

Have a target here somewhere, 5 shots under 5" at a 1000 yards which didn't place me in the finals.

If you hit what you are aiming at when you needed to, THAT is good enough.

I spent a vary long time doing the math and doing a hell of a lot of guessing. There was ABSOLUTELY NO ERROR INVOLVED or God really hated that SO In the sights. That wasn't human it was a miracle.

So much of this is statistical. I'm guessing there were multiple shots taken walking to the target. The variables for shooting ~ 0.1 MOA are astronomical.

My guess is multiple shots. (I took ~35 to hit 5 golf balls at 550 yards with ball ammo. ) Rumor has it these guys use Hornaday 750 gr A-Max.

I spent a lot of time analyzing that using the a max, but with no way of calculating precisely the drag against it and the effects on the really long shot, and I didn't believe the results that I got. What was that, maybe a 2-300 feet drop from point of firing to point of impact?

I know that the spotters have computers with programs that can give trajectory figures, markers to dope wind, and those spotters are brilliant. Nobody ever gives them credit.

I don't know how he even got within several yards of it. It's incredible. Impossible. And yes, he bagged him with only one shot, according to reports.

That thing was literally miraculous, the probability of making that shot was astronomical, given all of the obstacles that they faced

We have had the best of the best working with technology and skills that are nothing short of phenomenal. They have been doing this for thirty years, right? It took thirty years to make the shot, and God knows if anyone will ever do it again.

That's my take on a shot taken from over 3,000 yards striking a target that was about a foot square with only a single shot. It makes my skin crawl. What if they were just the tiniest fraction of a degree, a tiny puff of wind, even hitting a June bug and getting the smallest degree of deflection?

Awe is too small of a word. bagging him at that distance implies that he could have nailed a pea at hundreds of yards at any given time, over and over.

Will that ever happen again?

That is a staggering shot!!

Any idea why the Canadians feature in this league table so often?

Is it an area they excel in or they've just been on sniper-duty more than others?

Interesting. Could the shot even be heard at that distance? What a psychological score also on those around the dead guy. Where did it come from? Am I next?

Thank you Mr. Canadian Sniper...
